Default 1998 Autotragic issues

O.K. being a newbee here I searched, read, and have learned quite a few things about the Tranny in my grandmothers 1998 Accord V-6 Coupe.

During the 1st to 2nd shift the clutches (I think) aren't locking up sufficiently and the rev's go to the moon until things heat up (I think) and finally grab and complete the shift into 2nd. The car has 140K on it, and this problem has been around for the last year or so, hell since new I never liked the 1st to 2nd shift but now it's even worse.

Anyways besides learning a new word (Autotragic) I'd like to know a few things:

1.) How much does a rebuilt Stk. tranny Cost?
2.) How much does the Dr.Evil Kit/Rebuild Cost? Does he sell a kit a local shop could install?
3.) What are junk yard Trannies going for?
4.) I'm pretty proficient with working on cars, have down tons of tranny swaps (ON American V-8's so with that in mind whats involved with swapping ina rebuilt?
5.) Generally what are shops charging to R+R these trannies?

Thanks for any info you can provide, this site has already been a tremendous help.

MaiMai thank you for the info.

I doubt I'll take on the task myself, I have to get under there and really make an accurate assessment of my ability and Time Vs.Value. Any special tools needed? Do the CV Chafts need to be removed? Again I haven't be under the car for a while and can't remember how it all bolts up.

The Honda ReMan'd, is it a complete unit and I just give them my core and they give me a whole Reman'd unit? Are these Reman;d even worth it from Honda considering what seems to be a major weak link and known issue or has Honda upgraded the Reman's?

I think I've read that a 2002 Tranny is a worthwhile swap? Any idea on cost, mod's and or parts list on this route? Will a shop doe this?

Again, thanks alot for the info. Whats the 411 on the Dr-Evil?
