Default 92 civic i think the torque converter isnt locking

Car shifts fine, until its on the highway and it wont "click" or "lock" into the cruise gear. Usually around 70mph the RPM is around 2.8-3ish and now its around 3.5 and you can hear the engine louder obviously.

What could it be?....

did you check the trans fluid? also the trans could be going out, how many miles on it? was the fluid changed regularly?

definitely check trans fluid level first. Too high or too low can cause slow or non-shifting conditions in my experience.

well you make a good point.

I changed the tranny fluid back around 3k miles ago, and I only put in 2 quarts. the car sat for about a month or two before I started driving it again, and I had read somewhere that my tranny holds almost 3 quarts so I went ahead and I added another quart... or about .8 or a quart or so.

Now I dont know if it was locking into "overdrive" or whatever you want to call it on the highway when it had 2 quarts, but it def doesnt at 3 quarts.

Wtf???

im at work, so I cant check it now.

I know where to look for the oil marks when checking the oil, on the tranny I knew there are 3 X's... where should it be if its the correct amount? I also would assume turning the car on while checking would be the right way to do it.
