hey guys, I need some help here cus im stuck on this one. 91 Acura Integra LS, bone stock car will not start. Turn the key, it starts and dies immediatley. Sometimes* it will start and run extremely rough (as if distributor was 180 out?) then die 4-5 seconds after. car is getting fuel and main relay clicks also. Funny thing is when the car shuts off after it dies power windows do not work and all interior lights do not work until u re turn the key again...WEIRD. I'm thinking something maybe shorting out?? ECU flashes no codes.

Could it be ECU, main relay ? ? ?

Sounding like it could possibly be the electrical part of the ignition switch. Try cranking the car and just back the key off enough to disengage the starter. If it runs fine then you know the switch is bad.

 

okay so yea I was gunna replace the ignition switch and when i removed all the panelling around the steering wheel. tried to start it and it fired up just fine. lol. Before though it would only sometimes register that the key was being turned to fire the motor. and wiggling the key around in the ignition would effect if the initial dash lights would come on or not. Should I just replace the ignition switch anyways? Also is there any way to tell if an ignition switch is faulty just by looking at it? thanks

 

As for just looking at it; not really. You can try and taking the cap off and cleaning the contacts. It might get you by for a little while. I done that and well it finally decided to give out on my 30 miles from home... Talk about a cramped hand by the time I got home... Im sure that you dont want to be in that position so yeah I would go ahead and replace it. A new one is about 50 bucks or you could hit the junkyard up and expect to pay about 20.

 

ok so i switched out the ignition switch. seemed to b ok but stalled on me 2day at 80km and then took to times to start it. then when i was driving home it stalled and i coasted to my house ...lol wtf.
