Default Buying my first NICE suspension setup need advice

I have a 91 crx si with skunk2 lowering springs and tokico blues and I am tired of them. Car also has ETD gen 3 traction bar, new ball joints/tie rods all around front and rear strut tower bars(cheap egay ones). Ingalls ball joint front upper camber kit and an ebay rear adjustable camber kit.

I want to drive my car from Washington State to Maryland so I want a nicer ride but I also want something I can take to the track for auto-x/drag/and maybe some road racing so I want something with some adjustability. I was looking into the skunk2 full coilovers, anybody here use them and like them?

I want to spend aroud 1000 bucks, but anything less would be cool. Just looking to get something good I won't ever have to upgrade and wanted some advice from you guys who have already done a nice suspension. Thanks for the input.

Casey

From what you have....its the springs that give you that rough ride. My crx uses ST springs with Tokico struts, my car rides awesome

lol moscow ID, I just moved to Maryland though but my honda is in Idaho so I want to redo the suspension before a cross country road trip. I am also gonna replace the exhaust it currently has a skunk2 megapower which is loud with the silencer in. I was looking into a greddy sp2 what are some other quiet high flow exhaust?

I have them on mine. And I also bought the pillow ball mounts that are sold seperate and hardly do anything, about 800.00 dollars.
I've read reviews
The skunk2 full coilovers seem to be real good and better priced. Plus they're track tested

I also agree with the gc/koni setup. I loved that suspension on my first Rex.

GC/Koni but you need to narrow your focus. You can not have a car that does Drag/Auto-X/DE's that preforms well. You need to decide which one you really want and focus in that direction. Otherwise you have a car that does nothing well.

hey bro, about the exauhst......get rid of the ricer muffler, get a stock muffler, and then buy a electric cut out. you get awesome performance with it wide open and its very loud. but then when ur cruising and dont want to get pulled over close that bitch and ur stock. plus it sounds nice with it open and it doesnt have the ricer mosquito sound. lol.

GC's with Tokico Illuminas is a good choice as well. I have that on my EF and I'm really liking it. I have the shelf rates though, if I were to buy them brand new I would get something a bit stiffer.

again, another tokico blue customer who wasted his money.

should have bought illuminas. prokits are a great kit. i wouldnt want to go cross country with anything lower, or stiffer. i had fun with this setup from everything from autocross to my first few track days and never scraped on the street.

and get a rear swaybar. tanabe rear bar looks decent. seems to fit better than ST.

lose the front upper balljoint camber kit. its unneeded and you lose suspension travel.

i've done so much research on this here is some info i've posted in a countless amount of treads

there are two setups for beginners and for the more experienced the hands down choice for both setups where the gc/koni setup and they don't go bellow a 4 inch ride hight

setup 1 good for aggressive street driving, canyons, auto x, occasional track day, and the track beginner

koni yellow sports with ground control top hats or
koni sp3's with ground control top hats

ground controls
400-500lbs front spring rates
500-600lbs rear spring rates
(generally they have a 100Lb difference between them)

stock all around sway bars or a thicker rear can be used too

setup 2 too aggressive for street only for the track

koni yellow sports with race valving and ground control top hats or
koni race shocks (do to the shorten koni body ground control top hats are unnecessary)

ground controls
600-700lbs front spring rates
800-900lbs rear spring rates

no front sway bar
very thick rear sway bar

after all this research there is no doubt that gc/koni combo is the best setup but i'm still torn i can get ksports for 500 with custom springs rates i'm most likely going to spend twice the money and get the gc/koni setup thought from what i hear from a lot of racers i will not be sorry hope this helps some ppl
however after posting this information i drove my friends eg with pic coilovers and it felt really good so i did some more research on those and they are really really good http://picperformance.com/store/scripts/news.asp

they have everything you could want to know about the coilovers right there on the web site they even have the dyno sheets! pic coilovers are basically the same as koni yellow/gc but they have separate preload and ride height adjustment and they also have extended top hats

so in conclusion which do i prefer i'm going to have to say pic edge out a victory for me do to separate preload and ride height adjustments and their also made in America

To clarify, we are an American *based* company, however manufacturing is done at our facility in Taiwan.

hands down the GC koni setup is the best for the money. I had a tokico setup and from video of my car autocrossing it had a lot more body roll than my koni gc setup. That setup was a night and day difference and I wish I did it before getting the tokicos. I went with 425 front 450 rear spring rate setup and is great for autocross but gets annoying driving on a bumpy road.
