seems low to me. auto or manual? how many miles was your trip? are you due for an oil change? do you maintain a steady tire pressure?

I always managed to keep 36-39mpg in my manual Fit.

i have an auto and that is normal for me with all city driving. but i dont drive very gas-efficiently.. so.. its actually pretty good. i did a few tanks with my tire pressue at around 38psi and i got low 30s with all city driving. it might just be your driving habits.

what was your mpg before you took the cross country trip?

i have an auto i don't drive it very hard my tire pressure is always good i check it weekly, my last oil change was about 1000 miles ago (i go by the oil life not the 3000 mile change) and my cross country trip was about 3000-4000 miles total but my wife drives it kinda hard always having it shift at 4-5K but then again it's all city driving but when i do highway driving it's a lot closer to the high 30's low 40's

I have an auto '09 sport and I get about 29-32mpg usually both city and highway. I lug around 3 people and up and down the hills in ATL. On the highway I am usually going about 70-80mph and the tranny shifts at 3k rpm so you know I ain't stepping on it.

I saw some idiot wrote 56mpg on his fit and that is absolutely BS. Most is 33mpg for me. Still only 5k miles so I will switch to synthetic oil later when it needs the first oil change and see the difference.

Please share your thoughts.......and please do not mention 50+psi in the tires which is unsafe. I need proof from you to prove that you get 50+mpg. Calculate how much fuel you fill up with the miles driven. Oh yeah and no topping off the gas either.

I read the articles in Fit Freak and frankly it's not logical to achieve it or else auto manufacturers will advertise 50+mpg on the window stickers.

It's true that M/T will get better then Auto but the question came from a A/T fit owner.

Oh yeah here is the page with the fuel poll.

Know the facts before you speak.

No one is arguing man, I'm giving out the facts with support. Just do not like it when people give false statements. Your mpg is average for city driving IMO.

I'm at 1100 elevation which is not much compared to yours but with you at 4800ft oxygen is less therefore the car is using less gas which interm produce less power. If the car is not producing enough power your at a lower gear interm your vehicle is using more gas. Does this make sense?

Plus your at high elevation which means you have to drive up and down hills/mountains and the vehicle has to downshift more.

I don't think so Tim.

50mpg without some kind of annoying driving techniques or a scan gauge isn't so easy. I drive about 40 miles (back and forth) for work everyday on the highway and I cruise at 60mph and my average is 34-35mpg. I have gotten 44mpg before but that was either on a full tank of cruising during a cross country trip or driving incredibly slow for 100miles.
