Has Any1 Ever Used Gab Strut bars? *Pix*
Hello, I am about to acquire Gab front and rear strut bars. The guy I am buying from says its for a 92-00 civic/Integra. The shock mount areas resemble what you would see for a civic/integra. However I really can't picture the shape of how it will look on the engine bay. Pix below
It isn't a strut bar as 88-00 Civics and 90-01 Integras do not use struts. Tower bar is a better description.
Some tower bars, like the one above, have joints that can pivot. If the bar can move when under tension or compression it is completely useless from a functionality viewpoint.
Some tower bars triangulate to the firewall. You'll get even more of a benefit in that case as the shock towers are now braced against the firewall. However, the sheet metal where these bars mount, the cowl area for the wipers, is not the strongest. To realize the benefit of having a triangulated tower bar, that cowl area must be reinforced.
Here is how they do it on a Miata:

Doesn't matter what kind of joint is in the bar, the weight of the car is still on the 'shock towers' and a solid bar in between the towers keeps them from bowing inward when hitting bumps and such. They might be able to flex parallel to each other, but that bar keeps your chassis from bending like a U.
So yes, technically they do something. If you wanted the best kind, look at password JDM and get their bar that is all welded together with no moving joints, and makes a triangle between both towers and the firewall. It will allow no movement or flexing of any kind.

The best shock tower bar for a 92-95 Civic or 94-01 Integra is the old Neuspeed 4-point bar that attaches to the upper control arm bolts. Since the tops of the shocks on these cars do not bear any lateral forces during cornering, bracing the top of them only indirectly braces the real force points - the UCA bolts. It's better to brace those points directly.
