Irecently got a b18c1 from a friend of mine and yesterday when i was working on it i noticed one of the holders was broken!


I had the same holder from my old gsr so i replaced it. I followed all the instructions on the manual. This guy that works with me said that the cylinder head is junk now because the part i put on has a different wear pattern then the broken one. He said that either i gotta get the camshaft assembly balanced or get a new cylinder head! so what do you guys thing of this? I am very frustrated, he told me to get my money back... i need your help guys should i proceed with the swap or should i try and get the money back?

 

well dose the part u replace touch the cam directly

 

yes it does, it touches it in the end. i hope i can proceed with the swap! do you think it can cause anyproblems?

You wouldn't buy a new head and cam caps if you were installing aftermarket cams would you???

Just check the oil clearance with plastigauge and make sure it's within spec and it will be fine.

 

yea thats no good because the ware are different. thats why all camcaps are numbered. i wouldent procede with the swap, id get a head thats never been touched. i think it may be pissible to get your head totally redone? camcaps and all redone at a good machine shop.. but i think that would rape your wallet. id just get another known good head

bolt it down? i already did. just did a compression test today and everything is in perfect shape! you guys think i should risk it?

 

Ask yourself how long it was running with the cracked cap. OK, so you got a used one that may or may not be like new, so what, it's a Honda.
Do the plastiguage thing and if it's in specs, even a little under in the wear points, so what again.
It's a cam cap, and most of the wear is in the bottom of the bearings anyways.

Go put it back together and enjoy it.

And as for yout buddy, he's full of ****, you don't balance a cam assembly, least not to my knowlege.

If it really bothers you too much, get a new one from Honda.

 

thanks man thats what i like to hear! im gonna take it to a machine shop to port and polish and do a valve job!!

 

just checked everything with plastigage and everything is withing specs! so i guess i'm all set and ready to go!!!!
