Default short shifters [searched = no proper results]

ok, so my friend is giving me a skunk2 shor shifter from his 92-95 civic hatch.

but i would just like to know if theres any mod i have to do to my shift linkage if im putting his short shifter in my 89 crx si.

will it fit properly?
ive searched on google but i only found hints like the ball might be too big or my linkage will hit the exhaust pipe.

can someone confirm?

you should spend another $100 and get an actual short throw kit instead of just the "short shifter" shift stick and put the short shift stick along with the short throw kit and you will be shifting like no other bro.

thanks, Casey

I had one but I took it out. Sometimes they hit your exhaust, it depends on your exhaust.

What do these even do? I was thinking about one. Do they shorten the throw between the gears or just your hand on the wheel and shifter.

If they're not adjusted correctly then i guess there could be a problem.

In short though, the answer's no; they wont mess up your transmission.

yeah, i'm pretty sure that they won't mess a trans up. i don't see how. all it does is change the position of the pivot point in which the shifter "sits". know what i mean? the actual linkage doesn't move any different, the "stick" itself does.

i love my short shifter. it reduced my throwing length by almost 50% or more. although i can use some new shifter bushings in the pig....

hmm. alright.

so what makes a short shifter throw shorter than a stock shifter?

that i never figured out ever with reading a couple of paragraphs about it.

it moves the pivot point of the shifter itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulcrum the link has a picture of how it would work. not exactly a pic of shifter's, but i think you'll ge the idea.

thats kinda cool. haha.

i guess the bends also help with the shortening of the shifter.

very useful info.

It hits the actual pipe, not the heat shield. I haven't been under my car in a long time, but I don't remember having to remove a heat shield before removing the shift linkages to the tranny. The roll pin was stuck so I removed the linkages from the shifter end.

I dunno, maybe mine was missing?
