What is different in from 1996/2000 to 2001/2005 year civic?
I am planning to buy a used civic for my wife and I were wondering what is the different in 1996/2000 to 2001/2005 year civic. I used to own 2000 civic and it was very reliable. Thats the reason I want to get her a civic.
Now I can't decide which year civic to get.
Please help me
Thanks,

96-00 civics came with d16s si's came with b16s, 01-05 d17 but arent intechangeable with any generation, si's came with k20a3, the suspension isnt double wishbone all around, 01-05 are probably the worst generation civic

01-05 civics imo are the least enjoyable, least fun, slowest civics ever built, on the other hand you will notice a little less wind noise
although if you just want reliability and not mod it anyway, pretty much any civic ever made will be reliable

if you end up getting an em1 (99-00 SI) remove the DOHC decals and SI badge and replace the OEM SI wheels asap otherwise it'll get stolen pretty quick, its the most stolen car in Canada 10 years in a row
do not get the hx, if you plan on going automatic stick with th ex, the hx cvt tranny is a piece of doo doo. I do recommend the hx in manual since i have had one for over 4 years now and still running as strong as a bought it minus the tranny, which was just too long for me.
IMO a 2001 - 2005 civic would be better for a woman. They are a little more girly looking, and are a little more refined. Unless your wife plans on heavily modding the car go with 01-05. They are solid cars in terms of reliability just lacking a little in the performance department.
IMO from working on Hondas for years and years the 01-05 Civics are crap compared to the 96-00 Civics.
The most notable difference IMO is the absolutely horrible front suspension on the 01-05 Civics. they utilize poor quality MacPherson type struts, and the front lower control arm lead bushings tear out as early as 60K on them, resulting in uneven tire wear, rattling when hitting bumps, and overall sluggish response.
I must say that there have been some random engine failures on the 96-00 Civic D16Y engines, and it usually ends up being rod knocking due to some mysterious oiling issue(s).
Overall though:
96-00>01-05
Also, and I know this wasn't part of the equation, but I must also say from my opinion:
92-95>96-00>01-05

Do you know anything about HX? I know they are grate in GAS.
Which year and model came with Z6 engine? And b16a2 is and 99-00 SI? Which year model B16a2 engine came with?
'92 - '95 Si hatchbacks (5 speed only), '92 - '95 EX coupes, sedans and the '93 - '95 Del Sol Si(automatic and manual)
My head hurts trying to read that. The B16A2 came in the '96 - '97 Del Sol Vtec (5 speed only) and the '99 - '00 Si (5 speed only). The B16A3 which is essentially the same engine came in the '94 - '95 Del Sol Vtec (5 speed only)
HXs are more or less an EX coupe without the sunroof and a different engine, they use a wideband 5 wire O2 sensor and are designed to be extremely fuel efficiant. However the CVT transmission used in the automatic models is crap.

Only HX came with CVT AUTO transmission or all 96-00 did?
the '92 - '94s used the M24A automatic, '95s use the A24A, both are 100% interchangeable, I honestly have no idea of exactly what honda changed, but its been my expirence that every '95 automatic i've seen so far had horrible transmission issues, (either shifted far to early or far too late) while the '92 - '94s shifted fine for the most part. I also have no idea why honda changed the automatic tranny for the 5th gens final year of production.

And what do you drive? I want to know what kind of cars are better suited for sexist pigs.
OP, here is a thread that might give you a feel of which car could be better if she goes with a 6th gen (1996-2000).

And yes, I wrote that, even though I have a vagina.
PS - I think 7th gen Civics are sort of well... pieces of crap. All the ones I've driven or ridden in (save for the Si hatch) felt cheap and uncomfortable. Not to mention the D17 parts not being as easily found used, like D16 parts are. 6th gens were just more popular, so there are more used cars out there and more used parts out there.
The one downside to the 6th gens is the theft rate, though this isn't a problem everywhere. In places with higher vehicle theft, it's easy to make proper preventative measures.
We already know she wants an automatic, so that rules out the '99-'00 Si coupe.
Does she want a coupe, hatch or sedan? Does she want power steering? A/C? Are there any requirements for the car from her?
Thanks.

Yes she wants A/C, PS,... so I am debating between 99-00 EX or HX.
