Default What is the different in from 1996/2000 to 2001/2005 year civic?

I am planning to buy a used civic for my wife and I were wondering what is the different in 1996/2000 to 2001/2005 year civic. I used to own 2000 civic and it was very reliable. Thats the reason I want to get her a civic.
Now I can't decide which year civic to get.
Please help me
Thanks,

The only thing shared is some of the head components and the name Civic.

Thanks for your input.

Which one should I look for 96-00 or 01-05? And why?

Depends on what your plans are. Do you plan on modifying the car to get more performance out of it? Currently, the 6th gen civics generally have better aftermarket support because they have been around longer. More companies make aftermarket parts, and more engine swaps are available. But the 7th gen will eventually catch up over time. 7th Gen civics will in general have less mileage, and can be considered to be more reliable because of the fact they are newer. Personally I would opt for the 7th gen, I got my '05 for a decent price and it is still in almost showroom condition. I put a K20 type R motor in it and have big plans for performance upgrades later on. It is a dream to drive and couldn't ask for any better, and I love the fact my car is still almost brand new but was still affordable to purchase. Even bone stock, the 7th gen makes an awesome, reliable DD. Just look around for deals

2001-2005

The most common problems I have seen / experienced with 7th gens (don't know about 6th gen though) are,

-auto transmission
-compliance bushings
-window regulators

They are quite reliable, but no car is without issues.

i have never had any big issues with my 02 i start it everyday with no worries, very reliable dd and probably have lower miles than the 96-00 civics.

6th gen due to the ease pf the motor swaps and choices.

Not that the K20 or K24 swap is hard, but we are limited in that we can only do that one.

Ok guys...he said its for his wife...so most likely not going to be modding this one. So I would say go with the 7th gen 01-05...I have an 04 and its great..love the car..its my first civic and would def get another one. But as said before the only big problem is the Auto Tranny but that is more or less from modding most of the time...and the winder regs go out for some reason, but you can pick a new one up on ebay for $75-100.. No reason to go with a 6th gen as they will clearly have a lot more miles on them..

Since it's for the wife, I am asumming it's not gonna get modded, get the 7thgen. Lower miles, roomer, little more power. If you can, get at aleast a 2003-2003 most of the bugs were worked out by then.

I don't know about that, but it's certainly more time consuming having to deal with the immobilizer, which 6th gens do not have.
