Default what year engine and tranny is this???

i bought a jdm f22b engine and tranny for my 96 accord lx. im trying to figure out what year car it came out of. the crank sensor was part of the distributor, not by the oil pump. it has an internal coil distributor. has the automatic gear position switch mounted on the end of the tranny and not by the shifter. is this engine and tranny out of a 93 or earlier accord?? if i post the serial number off the engine and tranny is there any way someone could run the numbers to see what year car it came out of??

Well, it is certainly of JDM origin (Position switch trans mounted)
And I suspect it is OBD1 pre 1994 (Dist mounted TDC sensor)*
But perhaps the numbers will shed some light.

*verified via Honda Parts catalog
USDM went to Oil Pump mounted TDC Sensor for the 1994 model year. I would suspect Honda followed suit for JDM units as well (why build two versions of the same thing?)

Either a Google search, or perhaps Duane (as in the "Land of the Rising Sun" Duane) has a sourse he can beat up on.
What have you got?

There should be a casting stamp in the cylinder head above the exhaust manifold that will tell you what year it is. Take a good picture and post it here.

This is going to really confuse things... The MPJA Prefix calls out as a Honda Odyssey 1995 thru 1998 Model year.

Most Makers build THREE versions of the same model, USDM, JDM and General Export.

Those numbers wont help, Japanese parts shops do not use them at all. Look under the head under the distributor end where the tranny meats the engine, see if you can read the engine type on a flat spot on the block. The front of the block, not actually under the dizzy. It may only show F22B???

F22B were in the Odyssey, Accord and Prelude JDM's. Upper 90's. OBDI in Japan, OBDII started in 2000.

MPJA, first gen Odyssey, RA1.

The replacement transmission in the '95EX is an MPJA code unit. It has a shaft that sticks out of the right side cover. Looking at Majestic diagrams it is for the position sensor.

Would anyone happen to know the gear ratios and final drive in this unit?

Driveline section seems to be full of B/D series, and the Ridgeline/CRV/Odyssey board is a bit of a quagmire.

FWIW, if the tach is correct, and the speedo as well, the gear ratios in the MPJA seems to match those found in the '92-'96 Si Preludes.

2.705 1
1.535 2
1.057 3
0.750 4
4.428 final

4th gear 195/60 R15
70mph = 3227 rpm
80mph = 3688 rpm

The rpms are spot on. Not too thrilled as I was just looking for a replacement A/T but it sure pulls off the line quickly. But the cruising rpm is just a tad high for the B1, meh. We'll see how the MPGs are effected.
