Icon2 Need help! Car starts then immediately dying.

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my 1993 prelude vtec.

Here is what i figured so far: 1. When I turn the key to the on position, none of the dummy lights turn on. 2. Then when I start the car and let the key go the car will immediately die no matter how much gas I give it.

I noticed that if I start the car and back/hold the key off just enough to disengage the starter the car will run like normal. However, my hand will get tired and I will have to let the key go which makes the car die again.

After doing some searching on the forums it seems to be that the ignition switch is causing my problem. My question is, how do I know if I need to only replace the electrical part of the ignition switch or if I have to replace the whole assembly which includes the key and tumbler? When does the whole assembly need replacing?

If anybody can help me or needs me to provide more info please let me know. Thanks,
