Default JUN type 3's..yay or nay

Okay guys, ive saved up enough money, and i bought myself a jun head package w/ the type 3 cams. And now all of a sudden all i get from my friends/mechanics is negativity. I drive a 98 itr. Now i know most of these people are probably jealous and hating cuz i actually have a job, and can afford **** like this, and others because my car w/ probably be better than theirs. Now back to the orignal question, yay or nay???? I got a awsome deal on it, i can sell it and come out even w/ no problems, but i dont want that unless i have too. How much HP you think ill gain??? Worth the tuning costs or not?? ( im going to put them in so no labor costs). I wrote a novel on this in the ITR forum asking for opinions, thought i might ask you guys also. Thanks

JUN type 3's should be just as reliable like the toda's...get it dyno'd and i think u should be getting about a good 10-30 hp? ..well.. good luck with your JUN's...those are nice!!!

What exactly did you get with the JUN Head Package? Did you get the cams, springs, retainers, cam gears, and ECM programmed by JUN? And what other mods do you have besides the JUN Head Package? If you have a Intake, header, exhaust and the JUN Head Package; JUN told me they have seen gains as much as 40hp at the wheels!!

I would keep the JUN Head Package. I have an 01 Itr and I am saving for the same Head Package from JUN myself. The Type 3s are some bad *** cams. There is some dude on here that has run 12.9 with stock Itr bottom end.

I got everying you mentioned in the head package, except i opted for the Skunk2 cam gears. Cheaper, w/ more bolts..trying to be safe ...I do have a nice i/h/e setup right now, w/ the AEM, JG header (awsome header 439203849 times better than the dc jdm 4-1) and exhaust. I guess im going to go thru with it and see what happens.

Im thinking i can also use a VAFC with my stock ecu, just playing w/ the idea, ill try both out on the dyno and see what happens.

The Jun 3 cam specs call for 12mm lift on the intake and 11.5mm on the exhaust. That's huge and you really need to check your piston to valve clearance especially if you are using stock pistons. Also Jun 3 has the longest duration available on any cam made. This puts your max hp range way above what you will be using for the street. Plus these cams will not pass any emission standards u might be subject to. I don't care which cams you use, just wanted to lay out the facts for you.

Actually, I have the cams (do you, or are you going off of what you have read) and I love them, had them for over a year with 0 problems. They give excellent midrange (Road/race ECU) and awesome topend, unlike the Todas, they idle like stock. I also pass emissions w/o a problem (although I registered in a different county this year).

I love my JUN setup, I also love my JUN Flywheel and my JUN oil cap (gift).

What part of my post do you disagree with? The original poster lives in Los Angeles and those cams will not pass smog here. I believe the standards are much harder here than in a rural county in UT. If he wants those cams, go for it. I'm not saying they are bad, I just want him to understand there could be valve clearance and emission problems. Glad you like your Jun oil cap

Ok, my cousins set is a B18C5 bottem end w/ a B18C1 block and a JUN head package. He's estimating 210whp.

As far as my race shop's EK/ITR, their lookin' around 290whp. Their motor is being built in California right now. The owner has a thing for Mugen and Toda.

thats just one rare opinion for every one that has a bad cam, there are maybe 1000 that have good ones. And if you use all jun parts (valvetrain) they warranty it, seen that happen also.

Im not worried about smog in los angles, there are ways around everything.

you gotta remember that these cams make peak hp above 8500 with proper tuning and decent midrange. i like the ctr cams that i have now and they make very good mid end power, where its used alot of (daily driver). if youre strictly a drag racer and like to spin your motor to 9k rpms often, these are the cams for you.
