A bit more info wouldn´t hurt..

If it´s just surface-rust you could just sand it off and repaint, if it´s got deeper then you got to cut off the bad bits and weld some new metal in!

i went on you tube and got some advice from a couple experts... i fixed most of the minor problems my grinding the metal then using rust remover and rust converter to treat the tiny spots i couldnt grind then i filled the tiny spots with metal filler.. then sanded and shaped it then i used bondo and glazing putty to fill and smooth the crack out i wanna see how well that works.. but if anyone has any other suggestions.. the rust by the windshield is about an inch wide and ate completely throught so imma grind it all off and rivet a piece of metal and fill the cracks and repeat the steps... does it sound like a good idea

the right way to do it is to cut is out and weld new metel in place, grinding it down works, but long term its not really a good way to repair rust, the metal already has problem area, so it can start to rust again and would cause the bondo to crack, also over lapping then riviting the metal together is not the best way, where the metal get over lap it can cause water i hold up, in return would cause it to rust again from the inside out, the right way and only way is to cut it out but it together, do not over lap and replace it with good metal weld in and cover with small amount of bondo, other wise long term it will fale
