Mopar vs. GSR Hatch
Weapon of choice: 92 cx Hatch, 96 GSR motor I/H/E ITR trans ...185 all season tires
So I'm on my way home from moving some stuff into my new place on the West side when I see a red SRT-4 about 20 yards in front of me. I speed up slightly and get along side him, and realize I recognize the car from the area. He mashes the gas instantly and gives me a little taste of spent backpreasure (god I love that sound!)....the car's pretty quick. We chase eachother for awhile back and forth until we pass the highway and end up on a backroad near the train tracks. I roll down my window and he rolls down his and he says "So you want to go from a standstill?" and I say "Sure, that thing pretty much all stock?" "Yea, its a stage 1..only about 10hp over stock." I reply "that's cool my buddy used to have a stage 3 blah blah blah....we shoot the **** for awhile." He then says "So you want to go on three beeps?" "Sure why not." I say as I turn my music off and await his go.
Quick note: I'm 24...I've been into Hondas since I was 16, and yea I'm a little old to still be doing this sort of thing...but for whatever reason it always gets my adrenaline pumping. It's not that a GSR hatch is a fast car...its not. (I have had many superbikes in my time, and nothing outside of a 11 to 10 second pass feels fast to me anymore ) I think I was just on a big nastalgic(sp?) trip that night. Anyways....three beeps come fast and I drop the hammer at about 4.2k rpm and get a great launch on the guy. First...Second (little chrip) and I hear his turbo spool up loud and I expect him to start creeping on me, but he doesn't. At the top of third I'm doing about 75-80 and hes already about 2 car lengths behind and I hear him let off. We pull up to the next stop sign about a 1/4 mile down and I roll down my window to get some commentary. He looks over and me, window still up, gives me the stink eye, and pulls away slowly. About a mile down the road we part ways and its all over.
This incident reminded me of a time about 5 years ago when the SRT-4 first came out and my buddy Rob D had a built GSR hatch that smoked this rich kid in a black stage 2. Man was that kid pissed. He couldn't believe he got beat by a honda. $22k Mopar vs. $4500 civic hatch. I love it. This is what the culture is all about.
I don't care to hear or be flamed by some hypocritical old tymer, who needs to tell me that streetracing is against the law. Almost every member on here has done it at some point. I don't make it a habit. My hatch is my DD and this night was the hardest I've ever pushed it, and she took it like a champ. I'm not advocating doing this kinda thing, but comon' now...its a goddamn turbo neon! who could resist??
