Compustar Alarm
Planning on buying the 2001 model of the Compustar alarm. I heard from some people that its a great alarm but I have heard from others it screws up your car and it doesn't work properly. So what's the deal? Any feedback from those who own it?
can't see how that could screw up your car unless its hooked up wrong, or its hooked up wrong to remote start.
Just my 0.02, I've never used the system, however I belive Canuck-mx6 (on this board) has, you might consider im

yeah it has a 2 way transmitter on the remote I believe.... I don't see how it can "mess up your car" unless its a bad install.. in which case bad installs can happen w/ any make/model/brand component that you install (not just alarms)... from what I've heard from many users/comsumers.. the compustar works well.. my friend has it on his lude for about 2 years and hasn't had problems w/ it...
We've got Compustars in all of our vehicles except the SLK (just got it) and its actually booked for install in less than a week. I, myself have had compustars in many of my old cars with great success but my parents just started catching on, beginning with the MDX.

Really? Just wondering his reasons for hating the CompuStar?
My company is free to choose the security line we want to support. The CompuStar has been a good line to carry. There are many un-certified "HACKS" out there installing these improperly. CompuStar tries hard to filter out these individuals.
An alarm is only as good as its installation......it goes the other way too.
They go hand in hand. If one falls short, it brings the whole job down.
I do my best to listen to my customer's feedback and make sure they know how to operate the system properly.
As for the CompuStar, they strive to listen to their dealers and improve their product. The current line up seems to be stabilizing.

I'm also looking to upgrade my car alarm. I noticed that many people are waiting for the 2-way pager system from DEI. Also I hear that the AG4 is good. Is there a reason why noone likes the Compustar system? I have to agree with Handcommand, that the install is the most important part of a good alarm system.
The added security layer of 2way paging seems is a great idea. But this feature is only as good as it's range. From what I read the compustar alarm has great range 1.25 miles (in open country) I'm guessing the range is reduced considerably when your in a building. Does anyone know if the range on the other brands are better?
Which 2way paging system is the best one as far a range goes?

My compustar in my teg is tight. It's all in the install. It has a knock sensor if someone wants to page you,
annoying sometimes if kids know you have it
. remote start lets you know if something is open or if it's just goin off. When I take my key out of the ignition the car stays runnin like a turbo timer til the doors are shut. It's really good if you live in the city.

i've had the 2000AS and now have the 2WSSR spread scpectrum 2 way 1.25 mile range. There are a few things i like about the new one, and a few things i hate about it.
Few things = sometimes the shock sensor false alarms... compustar said that the shock sensor isn't supposed to be tight and loosly zip tied to a wiring harness (BS if you ask me) and sometimes it won't disarm if your very close to the vehicle... long range it works flawlessly. Other then that it's good.
Another anoying thing is that the alarm brain is fawkin huge and the new antenna... yulk they coulda made something nicer. Blue LED attracts to much attention should have stayed with red. The remote aren't the ones they picture on there web site. the ones on the web site used a blue led but when the remote was actiivated the blu led would wash ou the face and u couldn't make anything out. so it's got the new case and the old LCD.
hmmmm remote start on a manual tranny is good... on the old compustar... (if you had manual tranny with remote start) if you pulled up the ebrake (if you were just stopping for a few mins but left the car on) a relay would activate on and off, that got annoying as ****! good thing on the new one it doens't do it, only does it if you hold the brake pedal also (holding the brake pedal and turning off the vehicle will not allow the alarm to set it'self for remotestart when you exit the vehicle, otherwise the vehicle will stay on until you close all the doors and turn off making sure the car stays in neutral with the e-brake up. oh yea... i installed it all ;] i don't recommended anyone install this alarm, have a proffesional do it. i'm MECP (not that it means anything just helps)

I have the Compustar system, and I love it. Doesn't screw up ur car at all. Need any questions answered just ask
I have had if for close to 2 years with no problems from the alarm, just the incommpitent(sp?) installer
I went to check out the compustar 2wssas today (too many S's in that model name) and it was cool, the shop did a great install. I called the company up though because AUTOPAGE copied the 2wssAs system down to the wire and is selling it at a 1/4 of the cost with the only exception being the range. The range on the Autopage is 1000 feet. Big difference but when you factor in all the other pros, autopage got away BIG TIME. I got a price quote of $850 to install it in my teg with no power door locks and removal of my old clifford alarm, so let me know if you think it's worth that much..........otherwise I'm going Clifford (DEI) Matrix RS2
who said $850 to install it, I said $850 to purchase & install it
and
if you look closely at the autopage alarm and the compustar, they are definately alike, down to the "knock sensor" on the windshield
