Need a little help assesing my security
Sorry, I don't frequent this forum as much as some other ones on this board, so I don't know if this is a beaten topic but...
I'm just wondering what kind of security systems I should look into. I'm getting a little paranoid about security and was wondering what are some things that I should look into. My car just has the factory alarm on it, which supposedly has an immobilizer right? What other products are good? Autolock? The Club? Is there a much better security system that I could upgrade to?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

if you begin layering your alarm you'll get much better results.
You could do this by:
Physical Devices like the club, autoloc etc...they slow down a theif and are more prone to user error (never using it..)
An aftermarket alarm - adds lots of convienice as well as protection if installed well
Hoodlocks - Personally a must. Prevents someone from bypassing the factory hood cable and cutting off your alarms life supply.
Kill Switches - Can be installed right now! Basically can't start your car unless the switch is hit, flipped, on, or alarm if off (or all !)
Using all these methods is whats called layering, it slows down a theif, or completly prevents them from stealing your car / harming your baby but unfortunetly must be installed with lots of time and care, otherwise you have a vehicle that constantly falses and that alone will lead to vandalism from angry people.

hmm Rage basically said what I was about to say...layering your security that work independant of each other... so when ones defeated theres still the otha... in the end if they want it bad enuff.. their gonna take whatever it has to to get it (disable all ur $hit or tow it).. but having alarm w/ a good install, club (twin hooks), autlock (on your clutch or brake), and kill switches, hood locks, internal sirens, batt back ups... will be enuff to make a lot of theives say F*&k it.. or give up in the process..
pro thieves will still take it tho = (..

Define a good install on a security system. Like where the wires are and things like that? I have the stock KARR alarm on my car which I think has an immobilizer, but I don't know if I trust it. What are good systems out there? And how would you recommend installing them?
brain hidden well where you can't see it from the floor/pedal area (where a theif would look first since a lot of shittin installs have the brain just up behind the steering column cover)... you basically have to rip out a bunch of stuff to get to it.. you can put it somewhere other than in the front (back seat, under seat, carpet, in trunk, in rear quarter panels, etc...).. stealth wiring... once the brain is hidden.. dont just use the color coded wires... a thief will know that _____ color = the starter kill wire... ______ color = power, _____ color = whatever.. and easily disable it.. basically hide, stealth, and solid connections...
intead after the brain is hidden.. cut short the wiring near the harness.. and use all BLACK wiring.. so they can't tell what is what... in addition run important wires w/ stock wirelooms, along stock wiring.. so everything looks stock.. and you don't just drop the bottom.. see an extra/new big wireloom and be like.. theres all the alarm wires... have everything soldered, shrink wrapped, taped and wire conduit so it looks like the stock wire looms...
have a hood lock so they can't access under your hood and get to the battery (main power source) and cut the power/alarm wires or the siren... have in internal (in cabin) siren so it blast their ears while their inside trying to steal your **** or find the alarm brain (the siren needs to be hidden and hard to find/rip out too)... have battery back up, proximity, shock/impact and tilt sensors, have a pager w/ your alarm so u know when its being f*&ked w/ and can take action, multipoint immobilization.. have some wheel locks for your rims... I also use security (one way) screws for my amps and other components...
now idenpendant of your alarm.. have an autolock pro for the clutch or brake and have a club (yeah the steering wheel can be cut.. but that still takes time.. and is a visual deterrant.. they might move onto another car)...
also have kill switches (yes plural) where their hidden switches you need to flick/activate in order for the car to start/run..
the install is more important than the model number of the alarm... but some good brands are Clifford, Alpine, Viper/DEI and Compustar... these companies upper models have some good safety and security features...
there are ways around the factory immobilizer... I'd get other things to layer your security/have more to protect it..
do I have all/most of these on my car? YES...
but even w/ all this. you gotta watch out for tow trucks and pro theives.. messed up world we live in huh..
hope this helps/clarifies some stuff for you..

well what i think he means by a ood install is an alarm installation NOT unber the dash but WELL hidden somewhere else in the car so it cant be unpluged i also think the layed approch is a good one ans as far as i know if your integra? is 1999 or newer you should have the immoblizer in the key where you would need the key to be installed to start the car i think a kill switch is a good i dea for you i have one in my car that is a factroy button if its not pushed its not going to start but what i also recommend is NOT PUTTING YOUR STARTER KILL RELAY UNDER THE DASH there are a number of places on a honda/ acura that you can get the starter signal from just make sure the where you put the relay is somewhat dry and do your best to make sure all of your alarm wires are run clean and neat and with factory wires car theives look for any thing out of the ordanairy to give them clues to where hey can bypass alarms or starter kills

its basically what it says it is "hood" "lock" a lock that locks your hood..
there are 2 types.. manual/cable.. and electronic..
the manual ones consist of a cable and a lock w/ a key.. you must unlock the lock/cable in order to open your hood..
the electronic type are kind of like a power deadbolt lock I beleive (correct me if I'm wrong).. when u arm your alarm.. it slides out the lock/dead bolt and your hood can't be opened...
you can buy these at many car alarm/stereo shops.. and I think autotoys.com has them...

Sorry, I'm trying to understand how the hood lock works, I saw the pick on autotoys.com. Now where does it go and where do you unlock it from? Do you unlock that first then pop your hood? Is the lock in the car or by the hood?
Thanks!
Thanks!
In my Accord- I have a Compustar with immobilizer, security etched and registered windows, Magtech 3000 immobilizer (requires a special key) and the club. I know if someone wanta the car bad enough they will take it, but all combined its a good deterrent cuz they'll probably move over to the car next to me.
