Hey guys, i wanted some opinions and feedback on stud gun welders? mainly the Harbor Frieght Stud gun. Is it any good? does anyone have one? how do you like it? how long have you had it? Any problems with it? I just purchased one last week and am still kinda iffy about it just because its from harbor frieght and am wondering if its crap and i should just return it and save up for a better one. i've used one before and never had any problems. should work fine.

 

ima a body tech as far as harbor freight tools not the best at all for a decent stud gun ur looking at least 500 to 600 dollars

 

quick question, what are those used for, i have one that my uncle gave to me, and ive never used it....

 

yeah i know theyre not the best, thats why im kinda iffy and unsure if i should just return the one i have and save up for a better one, or if this would be fine for my use since i wont be using it everyday or even quite often. Just from time to time. What i dont want is to use it for like a few times and then have it break after just a few uses. so whoever has one of these harbor frieght ones please share your expierences. thanksthey're used to weld studs to a dent allowing you to pull the dent by the stud so you won't have to drill holes in your panels like the old days and risk corrosion.

 

u can get a base model "H&S autoshot" for around $200 .... i bought one slightly used off e-bay for $150 and its worked great! i wouldn't trust harbourfrieght .... a stud welder IMO is something you shouldn't cheap out on.... for $200 new its a great deal!

comes with a 2 year warranty, again ive had this exact model for over 3 years and never had a single problem with it.... i use it for everyday sheet metal work on my customers cars

 

stud guns are one of the greatest things brought into the collision repair industry. It allows you repair panels that don't allow you any access to the inside with out the drilling that was once so popular. You weld on the studs, pull the dent, cut them off and top it off with some body filler. They can also be used when an "oil can" affect is present. You heat the area with the stud gun with no stud and then cool it quickly and the metal will be shocked and shrink back into shape. I hope that this has been helpfull.
