Default High millage bad for a built motor????

Iv herd people say it is and other people say its not... I have a 2000 gsr motor built for boost, JE pistons, eagle rods, 9:1 Comp ratio (bottom end build). The motor had 60k when it was built and now has prolly around 66k... Its making around 400whp as of now and its my daily driver in the summer time...

I do a lot of driving back and fourth to school putting a lot of miles on it each week. I keep up with my oil changes, changing it super frequently every 1k miles just to be safe cuz i drive so much. At times i put nearly 1000 miles on it a week at best...

Some people say as long as im not always boosting and romping on it everywhere i go i should be fine...Then other people tell me motors built for high comp or boost should not be either daily driven, or if they are daily driven then they should be very frequently because there really only good for 40k miles or so.

WHAT SHOULD I BELIEVE?? SHOULD I BE OK??

people daily drive boosted supra's wrx's evo's etc.. are you saying those are not "daily drivers"?

put it this way, your motor is built for boost. its better to daily drive that then a non-boost built motor with it being boost fed.

as long as you drive it like a daily driven car you should be ok, as long as your engine is healthy. if you want to check do a leakdown to verify the condition of your rings.

just dont drive it hard when you are far away from home

My engine is built for high compression: 11.4:1 and it's my daily driver. I don't have any issues with it. I've put 15k miles on it since I rebuilt it. Just don't romp on it ever single light and you'll be fine.

Aslong as the tune is good, it will be fine. Thats what kills engines, When people turbo or high compression pistons and only get it tuned at WOT.

I appericate all your guys help, I did a leakdown and comp test before i put it away this year for the winter...comp was 165 across the board and leakdown test was perfect...however i wasn't the one who built the motor so i don't know if it was a "loose build" or not. I guess ill just drive it like you guys said and see how it goes...Im just a person that thinks too much and worry's alot. The cars my baby. lol. Also all my turbo parts are good brands i didnt really cheep out there. And i just rebuilt my turbo so i should be good to go...

Oh and what kind of oil do you guys think i should run? and how frequently should i change it? I usual don't run synthetic which is why i change it soo often. Plus it just makes me feel better and that its helping the motor out in the longrun...

P.S. The person who built my motor told me to stick with Valvoline conventional...so that is all iv been running in it...Iv still yet to find out why he told me this...

As long as you maintain your motor and is properly tuned in the first place, you should be fine. I would think a 10w30 would suit your situation the best.

is the block lined? boost and rpm will make the sleeves walk. this is one of the major reasons people sleeve blocks or just use the dart block. none of those parts will break in 40k if the tune is good but the block can walk if you hammer on it. after talking to a few 11 second guys with stock blocks they all complained about the same problem. breaking 2nd gear in the wd4 and headgasket failure from the center cylinders walking normally leaving the block a few thousandths down in the middle.

Ur miles on the car aint that high.It depends if the motor was taken care of in the first place.

damn, 66K miles is super SUPER low, especially for a 8-yr old car. My car was 7 yrs old when I bought it and it had 90K, and even that was pretty low. It's 14 years old now, has 272K miles, and still runs like a top. I just replace stuff when they leak, wear out, etc.

Saying that you shouldn't daily drive a boosted Honda or that boosted engine are only good for 40K miles are pretty ignorant statements. As mentioned it's really just about how good the build is, how much attention to detail was put into checking and double-checking everything, how well it's tuned, etc. If all those things are up to par, then you shouldn't have any problems.

But even for a boosted car, I think changing the oil every 1K is wayyyyy overkill and really just puts more used oil out there. You should be fine changing every 2K or even every 3K. I change my oil every 3K, which some people say even that is overkill. But with the age of my engine, I always want the oil to be in good shape.

x2

There is no reason to change your oil more frequently than every 3K. Do that and stick to it and keep an eye on your level, and you will be fine. Trust me, I am a freak about my maintenance and even I don't change more than every 3k.
