Icon3 Question about Drag Racing a DD

Hey guys I was wondering i have future plans for drag racing my Daily Driven 98 integra GSR. Its got 95k miles..i just replaced timing belt...i change the fluids regulary...and take in for servicing every now and then. And i was wondering how safe is it to drag race my daily driver? I plan on keeping it street legal and attending the local street legal drags every now and then. I was just wonderin how harsh it could be on my car becuase it is my DD and i need it for work and stuff...but i really have the urge the start drag racinig...Also if you think its ok *What codtions do you think would be the best to drag race in to keep the cars life the longest* Ex. "What rpm's should i launch at for minimal stress on the car and a good 1/4 time?

Thanks guys!

To be honest, I like to have a backup car if I like to beat up on my daily driver. (my Si is a sleeved ITR turbo and it's my dd. when it breaks, my 88 pos dx hatch comes out)

It's nice not to have to worry about how you are getting to college the next day or how you'll make it to work.

I'm assuming it's a stock motor'd car. Keep a eye on your motor mounts, axles and tires. Wheel hopping will break parts. If you can ease it out the hole and prevent that, you should be ok.

It's like abusing it on the streets but the track hooks alot better. I'm sure others will chime in with better advice.

if your still stock with about a 100k on it you mite wanna put a clutch in it before you go beatin on it. if you wanna keep it rollin without the worries of some type of failure. As far as gettin a "good time" well your gonna have to beat on her .A "good time" is mostly in the launch. if you dont wanna beat it off the line and your lookin for a "good time" you may wanna check out your local strip club and support the single mothers in your area!! lol just my .02 cents anyway

Ditto.

It's a tough call to make. Some people can beat their cars up and nothing breaks. Another guy will go out and break the first time and be screwed. Just take it easy the first time your at the track, and then get more aggressive in the future.

As for me, I've only ever had one car, and have raced it about 5-10 times a year for the past three years. I've broken one differential in that time period, which was 4-5 months into my first swap. Since that, two years have passed without breaking anything.

It's like abusing it on the streets but the track hooks alot better. I'm sure others will chime in with better advice.
I dunno, man. I've never had a track hook better than the roads I normally drive. lol

If you can't replace a clutch before morning after a long AAA tow home.. think twice about the track at least on a weeknight

It really depends on the car setup and the driver. The last clutch I used lasted two cars, and a few hundred passes. Though I've had some only last a week.

my .02 ...honda motors are very strong from the factory and the motor itself can put up with ALOT of abuse. The things you're going to want to be concerned with is possibly upgrading the clutch, but from the sound of it you have already been taking it pretty easy, so this may not be an issue right now. Other than that your best investment would be spending a little dough on the good tires, an LSD (do this the same time you upgrade your clutch), and a decent set of full coilovers. Other than that, have fun with it. Those twin cam b-series motors were practically built for high revs and track duty right out of box.

If I didn't have the 3.2 CL i'd be limping the integra to work. Broke both axles at IFO in montgomery. Replaced them both with new autozone axles and I have a bad vibration around 2100rpm and it lingers anytime you aren't in neutral. Not knowing what the problem is FTL...

Backup ride ftw!

Yeah I agree, it's nice having a back up car. I've ragged on the car for 2 years running 11s/12s, i broke a axle but had spares with me, and hurt my first gear, and once had a electrical problem that wouldnt get it to start, but i was able to fix everything at the track so i was lucky.

I raced a B16 with intake/header for a year, with alot of bagging on it, and it held up fine. I think your fine.

I bought my GSR stock and added mods over the years... but I raced that car every weekend there was a race going on in jersey. I was racing twice month... sometimes three times a month. I have several hundred passes in my GSR which was a daily for me the last 5 years. I now have a different daily driver sooo I can do what I want. I never broke a single part in that car.... I kept up on my maintenence and it never gave me a problem. I never built the motor and only went as far as having cams put in it and I started racing it with 70K on it and it still sees the track at 147K. It needs a new valve cover gasket at the moment.... but everything else is good. If you wanna help your cause when it comes to keeping the axles from breaking, invest in a set of traction bars. They will help you launch better and straighter and help relieve the stress from launching. I found to have good times I needed to launch anywhere between 4500rpms and 5500rpms... depending on track and weather conditions. Just go out there and have fun. if something happens don't sweat it.... most likely it can be fixed rather easily unless you have something catastrophic happen, which doesn't seem like the case for such a mild car.

Get a daily driver and you wont feel like your lifes over when something goes pop. Thats my expeirence. You will want to go faster. I/H/E is only the begining of what starts everyones addiction
