I have drilled and slotted rotors and when i drive i hear a constant clicking sound. The faster i go the louder and faster the sound gets. I though the clicking came from my axels but i replaced them and the noise is still there. I tried compressing the piston on the caliper and the noise reduced. Could it be my pads thats making the sound?? (cheap durlast) or could it be that the rotors need to be resurfaced? any other ideas??

I've never heard of clicking rotors and I dont see how the brake piston could have anything to do with it. Even if you compress it, as soon as you tap your brakes the piston goes back to it's original location.

The brakes are almost in constant contact with the rotor - I've heard grinding or metal on metal sounds before.

Best thing to do is jack up your car and spin the tires by hand. See if you can hear that clicking sound and try to pin point exactly where it's coming from. You can even take off the tire and spin the disc itself that way you can get a better view of the rotor/axles.

 

ive tried that before, and all i hear is the normal constant metal sound. but i think that it only clicks once they spin past a certain speed. im not too sure

 

check for any debree on your rotors or brake pads

 

I actually have clicking also, i was told by another ht member that he has experienced it also. In the end, it was his brake pads moving around in their retainers. It's nothing serious, just annoying.

The pad just moves when there is some force applied and it moves in the brake pad retainer making the clicking sound when the forces are let on and off. Dunno if that makes sense but that's what i was told.

 

If your pads are moving around need new retaining clips. They are like $10 for new ones most parts stores. I had car do that and was just old clips, soon as replaced never had prob again.

 

yep, its the pads. ive had this problem a couple times. either replace the pads, or try the anti-rattle clip replacements. duralast pads are warrantied for life, so take em off, run up to autozone and exchange them for free.
