How to distinguish which jdm b16a is which?
I got a jdm b16a but im not sure which model it is, can somebody help me out, is there an way i can tell? also my tranny at 60mph is at 3k, what tranny is that?
Do you mean what year model B16A you have? What OBD generation?
I'd post pics but my old home PC died with a ton of my old pics, so I'll see what I can do.
First of all the year of the engine is stamped on the cylinder head, just above where the exhauist ports/header are. It will be a number, slash, number such as:
9/1 - this would be an engine made in 1991
9/5 - this would be an engine made in 1995
etc. etc.
That will determine the manufactured year, but sometimes if it says 1991 it was actually an OBD1 engine from a 1992 model car, since often times an engine can be made at the end of one calendar year and end up in the next generation chassis. Also Japan got their models a full year before us, so it's common to see a 8/9 meaning 1989 model B16A, but technically the B16A wasn't offered until 1990 in all countries.
The year is part of the equation. the other stuff is what OBD type it is. Agian I'm lacking my detailed pics, but there are some obvious OBD markers for these engines.
Easiest way to tell apart an OBD0 and OBD1 engine is the plugs on the distributor.
OBD0 - milky white/clearish plugs
OBD1 - grey plugs
Other ways are grey plugs on injectors for OBD1; white for OBD0, 4-wire o2 sensor for OBD1; two one-wire sensors for OBD0
Anyways why do you ask? What specifically are you needing to know about your engine?
Oh yeah BTW when talking about engine rpm at a certain speed it's important to also list what gear you're in, and what wheel/tire size you're running.
