It's hard to tell from the pics.. at least go look at it in person..

It looks like the front grill is painted.. so the front bumper has been painted..

Also how sure are you that you believe is really has 56,000 miles?

Go take a look at it in person.. make sure it runs/drives good.. then run a carfax.. and i would go from there..

Yeah...mileage seems way to good to be true. Salvage title maybe?

Title is clean(going to double check this), front end was replaced i guess car had a minor accident. Heard it from cold start sounds good, warmed up and kicked pretty hard only one thing was i was in third and i heard some small clicking was noticeable tho, He said that the header is kinda cracked so it has an exhaust leak could that be the clicking? Didn't get into fourth or fifth gear?!? Left tail light is out. All locks mirrors window and moonroof work. Yeah the only thing im not sure on is the mileage. Looked under the car looks clean axles looked good, not sure what else to check?!? What do you guys think?

What the **** carfax cost 30 bucks thats b/s

Ok carfax report says 49k was last known mileage, car was in an accident on 5/10/07 total loss was claimed?

Talked the guy down to 3,500

Also the blocks motor numbers are b18a1 the vin says jh4dc2 so shouldnt it be a b18c1?

So what do you guys think?

It sounds like a good deal , but I dont know I just dont trust craigslist... does it have ac? couldnt see the compressor? i dont think an exhaust leak would make a clicking noise. Its way below KBB ($4600). Also it looks like its a 98 front end? If it runs good and title is good I would get it. A GSR swap goes for at least $2500. Does it have LSD or is it non lsd? Do a compression check, look at tranny fluid, engine oil, engine frame, look for any rust, feel the paint (does it look like it was repainted?), feel the clutch (is it spongy? ). Make sure you take it to a interstate to test 4th and 5th, also to see if steering wheel is not shaking at high speed. Turn the ignition key on and see if the engine light is on, if its not someone remove the light bulb. Run carfax, ask him why he is selling? Carfax should tell you is there is a mileage discrepancy. 56k on a 96 its not realistic , thats about 4500 miles a year. It sounds a bit fishy but you never know, our economy is driving people crazy. Always ask what? why? when? how? If block is a b18a, thats not a gsr , its a ls bottom with a vtec head (aka lsvtec). If it says gsr on the title, the he swapped the motor...Hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Total loss = totaled vehicle. It's been wrecked beyond repair at some point.

I would NOT buy this car.

I would not get it bro (I would if it was a true gsr). You're paying $3500 for an LS with a bad title and vtec head (if not done right, it will be a problem) But again, its up to you.

I'd stay away from that as far as possible. It has trouble/headache written all over it. Find a clean teggy unmodded

Could be right on that lsvtec, im going to ask him about it. Im going to take a closer look at the title too, if i can get it for under 3500 i might get it caus the only thing i really want is the engine so i can swap it into my sol but from whats known do you think the engine is reliable? I will most likley change the timing, tension, water & oil pump as well as all new gaskets once i drop it into my sol? I could always buy it and resell it if it doesent work out. Any other suggestions or should i just forget it???

I think the car was totaled gsr engine was taken then rebuilt and ls/vtec was installed.

you should forget it. just look for another, or just go buy a new engine online if your willing to pay 3500 for an engine that doesn't go to the car.

I deal with these types of cars all the time, and I would say this is what happened. The car was purchased at a salvage auction. The swap was sold to basically cover what that type of car goes for at these types of auctions (maybe even make a little money). Someone took a front end off of another teg and did an ok job putting it back together in order to allow it to pass the salvage inspection. Someone had an LS/VTEC laying around, and threw that in there to sell it. Totalled cars are not always the devil, however most are just not done properly. People throw them together cheaply and quickly in order to make a quick buck. I inspect salvage cars for the state of Pa inorder to get the slavage certificates into salvage titles so that the car can be driven on the road again. I would estimate that 50% of all cars I look at are unsafe to drive when I get them so I fail them. The other 50% are safe but just look horrible compared to the original car before the accident. The worst part of all is that most people get just as much money if not more into the salvage car than just buying a nice clean title car. In this case however I think the person is trying to make a quick buck, but you never know. Good luck!

I don't believe that for a second. Something smells fishy about this car.

or one that has been modded correctly, that car could be interesting but only in the 2s. you have to factor in the headaches it's sure to cause. the unknown mileage and the axles you will probably be changing {clicking noise}

I emailed and called on the other one with high mileage. It seems to be taken care of. The guys said body and paint is in excellent shape for the year, 94. He changed the timing water tension every 80k he is the 2nd owner, change oil every 3k. 195k mile would that be a reliable engine? I am putting the engine into my sol so and will be doing a resurfacing sleeving valvetrain pnp pistons rods ect. before it goes into my sol, then a turbo soon after...

Oh also the car is not modded in anyway, he also said it has been use for highway mostly, only pushes it everynow and then. The guy was quite up front and honest with me so i think this would be a better buy. Just want to see what you guys think.

I would rather get a usdm motor then a jdm just for emissions purposes

If you are buying this car just for the engine, and plan on swapping it into your Del Sol then there are many better options.

Buy a bare block for ~$100. Piece everything together with the cars purpose in mind. If your looking to boost it, look for forged pistons, rods, possibly sleeve it, and use all OEM parts for everything else.

Would that 195k mile motor be worth rebuilding from ground up rods, sleeved, pistons, all new pumps, belts, valvetrain, resurfacing the block ect and ect and then strapping a turbo to it would it still run strong with already 195k on the block and head????
