Icon6 Car battery is dying. Need help.

My car battery has been dying lately. If I would leave it for more than 6 hours with out turning it on. So I decide to disconnect my amp for my radio to see if that is the reason its dying. And still get the same results. But now that I connected my amp back up, as soon as I am done driving it, it goes dead. I can not turn it back on right away. I know its not the alternator cause theres times that I drive it in traffic with my system on for 30+ minutes and it does not die until I turn off the car. Can anyone help me with this. I know during the time that it took more that 6 hours to drain the battery is a short, but now that it battery drains after I turn it off has to be something else. Any help would be apriciated.

you either have a draw, or the battery threw a 7 ( sorry . is toast) have it tested. and if the batt is good, put a head light bulb in line with the - post and the - cable, and start pulling fuses til the draw goes away.

- Check the battery with a volt meter. It should be 12V and 14V with the engine running. If 14V running, your alt is good.

- Check again after you let the car sit for a while. Does the battery still hold 12V?

- Do not always count on the battery eye. It could be green, but the battery is still bad (see next)

- CCA - Cold Crank Amp is just as important. Most volt meter we have at home can't read that. A normal battery will need about 530. I think you need about 400 to turn a (small) 4 cylinder engine (like the Civic). In the 330 range, you'll be really pushing your luck from being stuck somewhere.

check this out...my roommate had a similar problem (91 teg 4-door), and ended up having to jump his car everytime he wanted to start it. He had already gotten the battery and alternator tested and went through a few warrentee batteries when he finally noticed something....

THERE'S NO ****ING BELT ON MY ALTERNATOR!

turns out the belt had snapped off somewhere down the line and apparently he overlooked that little detail...dumbass!

My 2 cents is that Your battery is junk , it won't hold a charge, get a new one.

Well I am going to check my belt. Thats on sight test! I remember my belt was not in the ok condition. Then I will check my battery. I bought it from autozone in april so it should still be under warrantee.

It will soon be the alternator. Automotive alternators are not designed for routinely charging batteries from dead. Cease letting the battery die and using the car alternator to charge it. Or else plan on getting a new alternator (with luck, just new brushes) soon.

An Interstate battery is an excellent investment for a Honda. Firestone and the like will have them.
