Hawk HPS pads and squealing?
Does anyone else here run Hawk HPS brake pads on their car and have a problem with squealing?
Does it always happen or only when they're cold?
What did you do to fix this?

If you're running HPS pads, why is noise even a concern?
If you want quiet, smooth engagement, or low dust, you don't run performance pads.
My HPS always make noise when cold, even with the anti-squeal backing plate and plenty of that anti-squeal gunk between the pad and plate, and between the plate and piston. They now sit in a box waiting for the next track day while a set of Hawk Ceramic pads provide nice, nearly dust free, quiet, daily use (without the backing plate or gunk no less).
And I was never able to get them to stop making noise cold, and even when warm on some days.

agreed.
btw, it's best to have a set of rotors dedicated to race pads and a set of rotors dedicated to OEM pads for optimal use and less problems.

I have used hps pads on 5 cars now with no squealing whatsoever. I always make sure i either resurface or get new rotors, and follow the break in instructions to a tee.
I never really had a problem with the noise since it's quite minimal at it's worst... just wanted to make sure that some squealing was normal that's all.
Thanks for the insights guys.

my buddy has them on his S and they have a high pitch squeal. maybe it's because they've never really been run too hard to really get bedded in, no track days on them yet. noisy is one thing, I could live with that, but high pitch squealing is annoying.
Performance pads have to be seated properly when first installed or they will make a lot of noise. Each manufactured seems to have their own recomended brake in, i would say ask they guys at hawk.

I rock my hps's on the street. I installed them correctly using brand new powerslot rotors, and broke them in as directed.
I did not use any of the compound though.
They squeal a little bit if you drag [barely press the brakes] them going real slow. As the mileage increases on the pads, the less noise they seem to make in my experience. They do dust a lot but its non corrosive.
