Default Whats a direct swap?

I have a 91' Si hatch and I was wondering what is the best, most powerfull engine swap that is a direct replacement for the D16. I was thinking about doing an engine swap but i dont want to have to fab up some new mounts or do a bunch of cutting/welding, etc.

Also what is something that i can bolt up a 6 speed to cus this 5 speed just isnt cutting it.

Stole this from another thread.

125cc Honda dirt bike motor. It weighs under 50lbs, revs to 10000rpms, and makes 320hp/liter.

There, now that we solved the question that is constantly on everyone's mind, let's talk about pizza.

Seriously now, the best engine for your honda is WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY!

If you have $1000, DOHC ZC.
If you have $2000, get a 1st gen b16a. It'll cost that much to get it in.
If you have $4000, get a GSR/B18C1.
If you have $5500, get a ITR/B18C5.
If you have $10K, and no use for your car for a month or two... get a K20.
Edited for the Whiners:
This is NOT a complete list, as there are mini-mes, LS-VTEC swaps, budget/poor man's ITRs, etc. Use the damn search button a bit more religiously.

What's the best engine for boost... the one that gets TUNED properly.
What's the best engine for drag racing... the one you spend the most money on making FAST.
What's the best engine for road racing... same thing.
What's the most reliable engine... the one you MAINTAIN religiously.
What's the cheapest engine... the one that's in your car.
The only 6 speed you will be able to have is if you get a K series motor.

yea what he said ^ lol.

the only engine that is a direct swap for your car is the stock one. anything else is going to require at the very least some extra wiring (mini-me). and swapping to a b-series requires a whole laundry list of different items. basically it comes down to what kind of money you have to work with, and if you can do any of the labor yourself.

I can do all the work myself, but i saw on this one site that they were selling used K20's with 6 speeds for like $6k or $7k.

That's just the swap; engine, tranny, and ecu. You will still need a set of Hasport mounts, the Karcepts shifter box, a conversion wiring harness, K-pro, axles, plus a bunch of other stuff I know I'm leaving out but this topic has been covered enough. Just try the search function or look in the FAQ's and it will tell you everything you will nedd to know. Oh, and it will require you to do a little cutting and welding on you car.

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/crx-k-swap-walkthrough-1853644/

just search a little next time. most swaps have been covered numerous times on this forum.

For 6k$-7$k you only have the swap.

You'll need engine mount, Shifter box, conversion harness and bla bla bla. (Same as EFRue57 said)

I guess that the best engine you can get is a B16A 1st Gen for your EF. It's a good engine, like any honda's engine but it's more affordable than a K20 swap.

My 2 cents.

for what it costs to do a k, you could make a much faster b. if you have all the money in the world, then sure, go with a k. most of us however don't have $10,000 to just drop on a k-swap though lol.

Thought you wanted a direct swap? If you do this swap yourself, without someone who has done it before, your car will be down for quite some time. And about $10-12K at least.

Go with a B16a. You want want a pretty fast EF get the JDM or USDM GSR B18C1. You can do your basic bolt ons & be just as fast or faster than a stock K20. Since you're doing it yourself you'd really save $$.
I have a B16 in my EF w/ bolt ons & love it. Too bad I didn't have more funds 4 yrs ago when I did swap cause I would've did a B18C1. I also have a 98 GSR so I guess I have the best of both worlds.
Good Luck

i know you said without a bunch of fab work, but h2b is a fast way to go. 200 hp right out of the box, match that with a gsr transmission, and you'll have a very quick ride. add some boost and run 11's. an h2b kit, engine, trans, ecu, and adapter plate will run you around 3k if you can find a motor for around a grand. tigerjapanese.com had an h22 right now for 850 with an auto trans. sell the trans and use the funds for the h2b kit. http://www.tigerjapanese.com/index.p...mart&Itemid=26

Cool. Good info guys. Yea i think ill go with a B18C then. Plus what about smog? I live in California and I heard that the H series cant be reffed. I belive the law says that the engine has to be of the same manufacturer and of the same model and of the same year or newer and pass the emissions of that engines year. Can anyone shead more light on that?
