P1457 code problemo
hey honda-tech. question..i got a 96 civic coupe (ej8) with a b16 sir2 swap.. with a p72 obd2 (gsr ecu) and yes i kno i need it for passing inspection...(dnt tell me i cant pass inspection with a swap cuz i'll prove u wrong) and i get the p1457 code one in a while like about every 100 miles i guess.. and i do not have a charcoal canister..could that be the reason why i get the code? is their any way to bypass it? TIA honda-tech
oh and the code is: P1457 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (EVAP Canister System)

aite so i never had a canister wen i got the car..ig ot it as a shell..so i buy a canister..where do i get the hoses?? any one kno step by step install instructions?? thanks for all the info!!
from a junkyard. They don't really go bad.
The charcoal canister stores excess vapor from the gas tank, and releases it back into the engine via the purge valve. If the system isn't there, you'll definitely get a P1457. I've also seen this code caused by a leaking gas cap, a leaking fuel tank, and an overfilled fuel tank.
You should have a hose running from the fuel tank up to where the charcoal canister goes, under the battery tray. I don't know exactly where it plugs into the fuel tank off, but I think it's hard to get to. It plugs into (I think) the firewall side of the valve on top of the canister. Run a hose from the other side of the valve to the EVAP purge valve. I'm not sure where that's at on a B16, but on a d16y8 it's on the fuel rail, and on a US B18C1, it's on top of the intake manifold.
You can use regular small rubber fuel line for this. It doesn't really hold any pressure.

My guess would be to duplicate whatever signal the ecu is expecting from the purge valve. I'm not sure what that would be, but it might be in the helms.
EDIT: Actually, I don't think that would work because there are like 3-4 separate valves in the system, and you'd have to duplicate all of them for it to work.
