Default Exedy Clutch and Flywheel Question (Possibly noise issue)

I have seen some breif postings on CLub SI about this and Ausmith gave some advise.

Quick questions for Clayton or whoever.

Would one expect the noise issue with a NEW (Fidanza) flywheel and Exedy Organic Clutch kit?

Should we take the setup to a machine shop and have them start working on a brand new flywheel?

What exactly is the "step height" that needs to be adjusted.

here is the post I am referring to

I'm also interested because I have the same clutch/flywheel combo.

I used a brand new organic Exedy clutch and CM flywheel. No machine work was done to the flywheel. All you have to do is shorten the pushrod. I never even heard a noise, but I shortened my pushrod before I tried to use the clutch. I don't know if there's more you have to do to the Exedy flywheel but the CM worked just fine.

I'm running the Toda fly with the exedy clutch....I had to shorten the push rod a little bit.....the exedy clutch comes with instuctions on what to do...it is easy. Once you install everything just start the car and slowly push the clutch pedal to the floor. If you need to adjust it you will know....the fingers of the pressure plate will touch the flywheel and make a grinding noise. It has been a good clutch so far for me though.....nice pedal feel...almost as soft as stock. Hope this helps.

I have done clutch installs but am not sure what you guys mean by the "push rod" How did you adjust this? Does it need to be done before or after install?

after install..

you will need 2-12mm wrenches (one of them will have to have a thin head)

look at the clutch arm.. where the cotter pin is hooked there is a gold colored round 'thing' (rubber filled to dampen the feel).. on the back side of that thing is 2 12mm nuts.. one is a lock nut and the other one is mounted in the rubber... using the thin wrench to hold the nut closer to the steering wheel... loosen the lock nut and then twist the rod to gain the desired length.

lock nut and drive.

just dont twist the rubber thing too much.

I did this on my Civic for the same reason. Works perfectly now. Had a little "clicking" which sounded very much like the T/O bearing pushing in on the pressure plate "fingers" a little too much when the pedal was on the floor. 10 minutes later it was as good as new, and the pedal doesn't feel any different.
