Icon3 Is the ws2 too restrictive?

i was struggeling between the apexi ws2 and the greddy evo2 for MORE HP and i made a poll and everyone is saying the WS2 (i know i wont gain much HP but i want which system produces more) and i really really want the ws2 becuase of the great reviews and the quiet tone of it ..... but the exhuast looks too restrictive and seems to me that the evo2 will gain more hp becuase of its free flow muffler...and i dont really care what it sounds like if im gaining more HP..so im kinda stuck... :\ anyone have a dyno of the ws2?

is your car stock? if so get the ws2, it has a piping diameter of 2.36 which is almost perfect for NA motors, 2.25 is probably the best. I think the evo2 is bigger, so that would hurt low end torque, which our cars do not have much of. Either way, both exhaust will not give you a huge gain in hp, maybe 1-2 or more from evo, who knows

When i put on my ws2, i did feel a loss in low end torque, not much but i did, but i felt a gain in highway power in 5th gear. Ive heard the evo2 before, its loud and doesnt sound nearly as good as the ws2. Ws2 is super deep and half the loudness of the evo2.

Also consider in price, ws2 is around 425 while evo2 is 650 i believe. Does looks affect your decision? i personally hate the look of it, the axle back is too fat and the muffler tip is so huge.

they all neck down to 1.75" ID at the axle back and the cat. i wonder if anyone makes a cat back for the JDM 2.5" cat that stays true to size?

BTW i think the above picture looks great !

first of all very nice teg if thats yours..clean as hell...and no looks dont really effect my choice at all and neither does price. I just wondered which exhasuts give more hp. and my DC2 is bone stock right now. but i want to take it to the track every now and then and put some bolt ons on it and some top and but i wont me messin with the bottom end to much. and you noice a loss on low hp?

that is my teg. The loss in low end is very minimal, heck, it might just be in my head, but for sure 5th gear can accelerate better on after 60mph

read that article

the evo2 will give more since its straight through and ws2 is chambered like OEM mufflers. ws2 is definitely better than oem tho.

sweet +1 to apex ws2. my friend has the greddy ti-c and there is a major rattle inside the resonator after half a year of usage, their quality isnt as good as many think and plus greddy has declared bankrupt, so i believe there are no more warranties.

i'm not sure if greddy is restructuring to stay in business or not. i've had a greddy DT axle back and dynomax stainless mid pipe on my car for years now with no issue. the WS2 is the natural DD choice just on price to benefit ratio. also, those dyno tests are wack at best. unless it was the same car, same day and same dyno the tests are worthless. based on construction alone i doubt you would notice any real difference between an evo2 and ws2

and you said based on the construction...I noticed that the evo2 is a straight through exhaust with a big tip and the WS2 is a chambered exhaust with a small tip. it almost seems to me like the EVO2 would gain a few more ponies becuase if the more free flow design..any tips?

You know where you would really be able to compare the difference between the 2 exhausts? Instead of doing the runs on a stock or near stock motor setup, try both exahusts on an engine that has had some work done on it or with more mods. I'm pretty sure you'll see the EVO2 shine.

The WS2 is basically a more free flowing OEM exhaust with a larger, shiny muffler section. The WS2 is a great sounding exhaust and is for those who dont plan on going beyond basic mods. Thats when the restricrtive qualities will show. And the 2 hp gain wont be felt between the exahusts.

OH, and I persononally own and run a WS2 on my Integra.

i owned a WS2 on my civic w/b18c1 swap and was wonderful! loved the tone, and volume, the only time it got louder was when i got a JDM ITR header (4-1) then i (regrettably) switched to a thermal r & d exhaust, with cams and tuning i did feel a good difference, but case in point for mild mannered power WS2 for sure, if really going all out, then get an N-1 style

hey bsampson,

like i said in your other thread, the WS2 is a very nice peice of work, but the only problem i have with them is the pipe that the resonator is on and the muffler it self. the mid pipe where the resonator is bottle necks to 2" at the cat flange, i think it also bottle necks some where on the on the resonator. the muffler itself have rattling problems later on, it's a common problem from what i heard.

but dont get me wrong, the WS2 is a nice system, if your going with just a I/H/E set up then this is perfect. if your going to FI then you might wanna replace the mid pipe.

some exhaust i may suggest is the greddy SP2, tanabe medalion, or even a ITR catback.

stay away from the greddy evo2, it's a rust bucket.

also here is this great exhaust buying guide, gives pictures and sound clips

hey like you said you think the evo2 would shine....just like everyones basic opinion. but here i found some dynos showing that the WS2 making a few more HP than the EVO2. http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/bolt-...vids-pics.html how accurate do you think these are?

At low RPM's that video of the EVO exhaust makes my stereo shake my desk. LOL
I am also very suprised to see the WS2 with higher HP. Seems like a decent comparison, only thing was it was 2 different days and time of day.

not very, too many variables in different tests. both exhausts neck do to that small collector. at least if a person did an entire ITR cat back you could use a 2.5" cat and larger tubing. in thought the greddy should be more powerful since it's a straight through design, since it isn't common sense tells me that the muffler isn't the restriction. some of those dyno tests you see in road and track on a C6 where it picks up 25hp with a muffler change on the same day, same dyno and same car let a person know that the stock mufflers really are a restriction. it's actually really difficult to make power with a b18c motor. 10hp is a big deal with these. you only have 109 cubic inches and honda optimized it from the factory. just to stay carb legal for a debate here. a bone stock GSR in good shape makes roughly 150-155whp if you raise the compression to 10:75-1 to 11:1, add a good stage one cam like the skunk2 tuner1 or crower 401, upgrade the VT for an 8500rpm limit, skunk or blox manifold. get a good carb header like the edelbrock, add a quality cat back and spend some time working on where the engine wants timing and add & subtract fuel till you have a nice AF line on the dyno you can get 180whp. in other words, a complete build will gain you as much HP as a muffler change on a new corvette. keep the big picture in mind when you buy parts. where do you see your car going?

well right now its my Daily driver...and i just want to put on some bolt ons and maybe some cams and some top end work. I take it to the street legal drags every now and then to mess around and have some fun and i just want the exhaust that will give me the most HP and a better 1/4 time.
