What's up HT? I'll use this post to introduce myself as well, since this is my first on the forums after a month of trolling around! I'm from the Bay Area and I just found love for the import car scene. Gotta love VTEC!!

Anyways, I just got my hands on a 99 si for $2k. Problem is.. it has 200k miles on it. I'm now having second thoughts on it. Should I just get to tuning up the engine or do a swap? The car does feel and drive clean to me though.. although it seems that it burns motor oil real quick (5qt extra every 3k). I bought it stock, but I added dc 4-1 headers and aem v2 intake.

If any specs are needed to help answer this question, please ask! Thank you for looking.

 

If i was you i would rebuild the motor....and then when you rebuild it you should build it for boost!

 

damn that's a lot of oil. sounds like it needs a rebuild, or swap. stay on top of it, keep it full, otherwise you'll be swapping sooner than you think.

 

damn...even for 200k miles thats a hell of a deal. great find...and i would prolly either do like 95civicdx51 said...rebuild it for boost...or just swap in a gsr and keep it n/a. its really up to you...but that really is a great deal. i wish i could find somethin like that. and btw...good start on mods.

Does anyone have an idea of how I can narrow down my motor oil problem? I use 10w40 by the way..

 

rebuild the motor, and do it right.

 

you could just put rings in it temporarily...but IMO i would just rebuild the whole thing.

 

Hondas are supposed to use 5w30 fyi

 

That's still a pretty sweet deal, 200k or not. You got the car for $2k, you can easily put a good swap in there for a couple more grand, fully built and have a bad *** SI for less than $8k.

 

That's not bad. I would swap in a different engine and check out the rest of the car's condition.

 

Tech at Honda dealership here told me to start using 10w40 for its thicker substance. At first I was using synthetic, but he told me that the thin oil burns too quick in my car.

 

yeah, i use synthetic, but then again my car only has about 50,000 miles on it. for the oil burnproblem , i guess get some oil treatment at your local autoparts store or get engine treatment, it might not make it totally go away but it will help. as for engine, i would either do a gsr swap or maybe a B18, personally i like the B18's

 

Yeah, I'm still debating if I want to swap or not. I'm actually looking at this site http://www.tigerjapanese.com/ for its 98 b18c type r engine. I don't know if this is a quality site though, I've known some folks that have been sent bad quality engines from experiences of buying online. However, I'm actually leaning towards doing a Skunk2 rebuild and boost!

 

motor honey. really goopy stuff, add it in place of a qt of oil, should keep the burning down. if you swap, hmotorsonline is the best place to get a motor.

 

well you motor has so many miles on it. and i have a z6 that has 198k miles and it didnt leak or burn that much oil i probly had to put a quart a month and thats from using vtec all the damn time.... but i use 5w30. its whats suppose to go into our motors...

 

If you buy anything online ( motor wise ) buy from Hmotorsonline.com, Ive but a couple swaps from them and everything was str8 so I know their legit.
