I currently am running 2 amps in my 92 civic Lx. One for the front and rear speakers and the other on 2 12in subs. I'm running 900w rms to the subs and put in a capacitor in hopes of fixing my dimming lights.

The stock alternator is a 70a unit and I was wondering if I should put in a second battery or order a 160a alternator?

Just wondering what you guys think. I did the Big 3 upgrade already and that didn't do a thing for it.

 

Alternator, no question. In fact, a second battery will actualy put a higher demand on your charging system, it will only allow you to listen to your system without the vehicle running for longer periods, thats it. The altornator is the primary power source, and should deliver 14 plus volts when the vehicle is running, where a battery only delivers 12 volts.

BTW......whats the Big 3 upgrade????

Upgrade the alt., as mentioned a 2nd batt. is good if you like to crank your tunes for long periods of time without the engine running, also as mentioned a 2nd batt. adds more load to the alt., so an upgraded alt. becomes even more importent.

You said you installed a cap and did a "big 3 upgrade" but "that didn't do a thing for it" does that mean you still have dimming lights? 94

 

I figured the alternator. The big 3 is upgraded ground wires. Thats what a lot of people call it. The headlights appear to turn off when the bass hits. Thanks for the input. Will be ordering the alt. in a few days.
