Icon6 BEST HEAD FOR MAKING 800+

What is the best head to run on a gsr block to make 800 plus whp? AND... o-ring or not to o-ring? i ask this cuz i am running a discontinued pro topline head and keep blowing headgaskets. i found that the factory oem gaskets last longer. i even tried switching sleeves. first i was running a darton MID sleeve and could barely make 750 without popping a gasket. then i sent out and had a gloden eagle sleeve installed in another block. the sleeves themselves were a little thicker than the darton sleeves and held up to 857whp for 6 or 7 pulls then let go also. both sleeves dont have an o-ring. dont think i like this head to much either. i had a real RHS head that worked on my earlier setup making 584whp and that block was sleeved with an oring with 29psi with no problems for 2 years. but i sold all that to build this monster and all it has been is a monster headache!!

also thoughts on stepping the deck and bigger head studs? there is also some minor misfiring that happens while tuning on the dyno but i dont think its enough to kill the gasket that quick

sleeved block 20 over
gt42r turbo
je pistons and rings
aem,epm,coil on plug,aem twin fire
pro topline head with blox cams
636@24psi and 857@39 psi

No need for the bigger headstuds, O-ringing is always nice for added help but some use it, and some don't.

With a thread like this be prepared for tons of different replies and views lol

why is your car misfiring? thats most likely what is causing the gasket failures.

i use a cometic gasket and no o-rings with no issues. i have no idea how much power i make, but its see's over 40lbs of boost with out issues unless it missfires lol which it hasnt done since the last time my fuel pump failed. that sucked. put a new headgasket on it and it was good to go again after that.

Like Joe said 1st thing to do is check that misfire..that is most like the root of your headgasket problem.

Oringed Block with a CNCport.com Head .... Thats what works for me! The CNC head seems to be working great! oh and I make about 45-47psi all in, usually run about 36-40 though

You can make 800WHP on a stock head.

can it do it? yes will the power band suffer from it? yes will the car make more power with way less boost on a ported head? yes

the powerband on a 800 horsepower stock head car vs 800 hp car with a good cylinder head is a night and day difference.

Yup, what would make 800whp on a stock head would make 850+ on a good head and have a better powerband.

RLZ here.

a stock head with over 800 is useless IMO, yes it will make the power but most likely it will be unusable, im sure Joe will attest to my success before and after a port job lol
but if your just looking for a # over 800 use a stock head ....

I thought that it was common knowledge, that in our cars that A LOT of power was in the heads? I don't get why you'd spend thousands of dollars to buy a turbo and manifold and EMS, and then leave the headd stock??

OEM, Golden Eagle, Cometic.....i really dont think it matters if the tune is good and the machine work is done properly. ive used all 3 on my car over the years and ive never had a problem as long as the tune and machine work were good.
