Default Serious power loss.. electrical problems?

It's getting worse and worse. I'm losing power at random. When I'm driving down the road the car will have a total power loss where the radio and everything turns off for a second and then cuts right back on. On and off on and off. It happens at random.

I had my battery tested at Autozone and they said it was fine. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this? I'm afraid I might get into an accident.

does the engine actually die? mine does this on occasion but doesnt actually loose electrical power long enough for the engine to die.

the alternator is a good place to look. i havent had the time to look into mine at all.

Mine did this two or three times this past summer, but I haven't had any issues, so I haven't pursued it further. Sounds like an alternator issue to me, but I'm not sure.

Does it act as if you turned the ignition key off and back on quickly? Maybe the switch is going out. Another place to look would be you battery connection, positive and ground, and at both ends.

BTW, a failing alternator will not kill the electrical power like that if the battery is good (as tested). It can eventually cause the battery to get low enough on charge so that the engine won't crank on start-up. You don't mention that as a problem though.

Why the hell doesn't anyone ever post an update to these types of threads? It would be helpfull if guys with questions let everyone else know what they figured out and if they fix the problem.

I have an 04 LX sedan that is doing the same fing thing and NOBODY seemsto have an answers besides "it may be the alternator". Alternator? Thats bullshit and an expensive way of diagnosing an electrical issue. The Alternator charges the battery, the battery powers the system. If the alternator stops working, the car will keep running until the battery loses enough amps to cause the systems to shut down completely, not intermittently on and off while everything else is working fine.

Due to the fact that it's an intermittent problem, I wouldn't suspect the alternator is the culprit.

Possibly loose wire terminals, faulty ECU, faulty MCU (multiplex control unit) .. the problem with intermittent issues is just that .. they're intermittent, making it a total PITA to figure out what's wrong.

I'm sorry, but I do not have an "it's this, fix it" answer for you, but the first place I'd look are the wire terminals and the MCU. It's obvious to me that you have already searched, otherwise you wouldn't have bumped such an old thread in an effort to find an answer.

Hopefully you can get it sorted out.
