Cam gear question...About to buy
I'm getting cam gears for my LS.
the question is: what to get?
I'm interested in AEM...well, because it's AEM. The 3 bolts design seems a bit shaky to me though. The HKS is 4 bolts. Skunk2 and Hayame are both 6 bolts. They say that 6 bolts reduces slippage. How important is it to have more bolts? What brand do you guys use and recommend? Thanks in advance.
I'm hoping to get some good numbers in combination with my AFC. Everything will go on a dyno for some tweaking and tuning.

Get yourself a nice set made out of chromoly, aluminum is a very soft material and the torque you'll be putting on those set bolts will score the aluminum after a while. Chromoly has a longer life than aluminum does anyway. I think Toda makes chromoly gears , not quite sure about that though. The only reason I say chromoly is because what i explained above has happened to three friends of mine and they pretty much had to buy new gears two years after they had bought them in the first place. Not a single one was put on by the same person so you can't say that it was operator error(they had them put in at mod shops ). Good luck!!
just get some skunk 2's not too expensive hold well and look tite.
..just my $.02 though. You look at them and tell me which ones you think look like they're made better:
AEM TruTime

DC Sports

Skunk2

Toda

I was wrong in my above statement saying that the Skunk2 gears are 6061 aluminum..they are made ot 7075-T6 aluminum. Very strong forged aluminum gears. For the price and quality, these may be the best out there.
is it worth it to get them without cams?
I have a pretty down to earth IHE setup in my LS.
what are my other options?
I'm saving for turbo, but I don't know if I really want it.
It's so much money and I don't think I'd be happy if I dropped another 2.5k into the car.
Looking for some extra power and have a little $$ to spend.
