Question abou how Fog Lights Work
As an European standard fog lights should operate with the main lights off.
Meaning that you can choose only to have your foglights on and main lights off with the rear lights iluminated.
So far from what ive seen in the US that fog lights can only be turned on with the main headlights on and not by themselfs.
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Got an EX without fogs, want to install fogs but only if I am able to have them on by themselfs

you can wire your fog lights to be independent from the headlights thats easy. except it would also require an independent switch to turn on and off the fogs, thats how i have mine wired up. but if you want the rear lights and fog lights to come on, you would have to wire the fogs power source to the headlight source of the headlight switch and then wire up the headlights independently with a switch. that would be the only way i can think of right now
I want how they have it in Europe.
Foglights on with headlights off and gauges lit up with the taillights.
Thats how its supposed to work.
The purpose of foglight is to provide illumination in bad weather conditions. The reason they are placed at the bottom is to minimize glare in rain, fog and snow. Having your headlights AND foglights on at the same time defeats that purpose. Europe has strict standards on that and some countries still enforce Standard Yellow as the only bulbs you can use. I dont know why the foglights here dont have that same standard.
Now foglights come with their own switch anyway. I guess I can wire it so that flipping that switch will turn on the foglights and then I can just turn my headlight to parking lights only and get the gauges and taillights lit up. Right?

I have my foglights wired independently, not connected to the headlights/parkinglights at all. I might rewire them so the switch can only be operated with at least the parking lights on. Me lazy though.

I have an idea. It's a pain but you can wire up your front parking lights to the head light power source. Then have the fog lights run off the power source that the front parking lights were hooked up to. You should also be able to use the switch to turn them on and off as you wish and have the dash lights and tail lights on at the same time as the fog lights with out having any light from your head lamps. Does that make any sense? You'll want a wiring diagram of your lighting system but it should work.
