Default Ripped cv axle boot on new axle, safe to drive on?

hey guys i put in new axles about a month ago, only 1000 miles so far, and i noticed a small hole in the cv boot on the driver's side, at the hub. It looks like a lot of grease has come out already, how safe is it to drive on this axle? Is it gonna start clicking first, or is it just gonna snap in half and start swinging all over the place hitting ****...

I have a new axle on order, but it will be a week before i get it and this is my DD. Thanks for any help!

unpredictable. If you are running a stock motor and relative stock height you will probably be fine for a week or two till you fix it. These things can go 10,000 miles with out breaking or a may not get you a 1/4 mile before the ball bearings shoot out.

They will fling the grease out very quickly. The cv won't last long with out grease, especially if the car is lowered or run at high speed. It should start clicking before it comes all apart, but there is no way of knowing how long that will be.

it usually will start clicking, you could just replace the boot, they are like 15 to 20 bucks at a local parts store, pretty easy fix

well im not sure how long ive been driving without the grease....so i think maybe i already damaged the axle, so i though id replace it.

The car is lowered and around 380whp. I recal when i first bought the car the boot was ripped on it and i drove it for like a year every day and nothing ever happend. But maybe ill look into replacing just the boot and throw more grease in there...

How large is the rip? I put some silicone sealant over a small split in one of my CV boots nearly a year ago after it had lost a fair bit of grease. 20,000kms and 10 or so track events later and it is still going strong.

replacing the damn boot is harder than replacing the axle, im just gonna replace the axle, its lifetime warranty anyway. I havent actually taken a look at the size of the rip, maybe i can use some sealant for the time being until i can swap the axle...
