Icon3 engine burns oil... reccomend diff. brand & viscosity pls

Hi,

My engine has been burning a lot of oil lately.

Next week I'm planning to do my next oil change. I usually go with Mobil-1 5w30 and a Mobil oil filter. I want to try something different.

I'm coming up on a cold winter and I would like to see this engine last till May at least. From some quick research here on the board I'm thinking about trying 10w-40 with RESTORE Engine Lubricant additive.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Your not gonna fix it with different oil, buy the cheapest 5w30 you can find. I'm really not a big fan of dumping heavier oil in something to cut down on oil consumption. It works to some extent, but i'd sooner have an engine burn oil, than starve bearings for oil because its too thick to flow, especially when its cold.

I think your engine either needs rings or new valve seals. thicker oil won't solve your problem.

how many miles on your engine? if more than 150 000 use 10w40 it's semi syntetic and i'm using it on my 175 000 miles engine. usually a mineral oil should be used on high milage engine but the deal is honda's crank and rods has a very thin oil channels that's why a mineral oil will not work. your best bet is 10w40, i'm using same on mine, or you'de better fix your engine up, or make a swap!

well if you are swapping it out in may, just use the cheapest 5w30. Its gonna keep burning oil, so dont waste your money on mobil 1

I ran 10w40 in my car when it was burning oil, it didn't burn as much oil as it did with 5w30.
