Default OBD2 Distributor install question...

If the distributor can only slide into the end of the cam one way, why does the number 1 piston have to be at TDC when you install the dist.?

What ill effects can be expected if the distributor is not installed with the number 1 piston at TDC?

I've never set #1 to TDC to install the distributor. Never had a problem

Well, alright then. I installed my distributor without being at TDC, so I was just wondering if it really made a difference.
