Well I finally got the bumper support after searching for months. It weighs about 9 lbs vs the stock support that weighs 33-34 lbs. So its approx a 25 lbs weight savings.

lol, so what is the usdm one speed rated to vs the jdm one then ? Neither are going to help very much in a high speed collison. I dont know whats up with everyone thinking that the bumper support is meant to help in high speed or higher speed collison. Its only meant basically for parking lot safety.
Besides alot of the weight of the usdm one is from that shock thing and the brackets for it, which are NOT safety devices.
Please read and then make a more informed statement.

I got bumper support from a jdm parts importer in philly. The subframe im not sure where you would find it, alot of places that i have called dont even want to part out the clips, just sell them as a whole. Is there a weight difference in the jdm one though ?

The brackets are welded to the bumper support for the front vibration damper. Those brackets weigh less than a pound for sure.
I rear ended a Civic Hatch at TWS during qualifying last year. Speed differential was at least a good 30 MPH, in the braking zone going into 15 (going CW, so it was after the front straight where I can top my car out). I punted him right off the track. Damage to my car was basically both headlights (all tabs were broken, but the headlight lens was not broken) and the paint on the bumper cover. There was a bit more damage to the rear of the hatch, though.
I wasn't using the styrofoam core, though. Damage might have been less had I been using it. BTW, my hood wasn't touched.
I wouldn't run without the support myself, but you are right, if you rear end someone at like 60 MPH, it won't help much, though.
I'm wondering if there is a way to make the USDM bumper support lighter but without making it significatly weaker.

I was saying the brackets along with the dampener. Modifying the stock one would be ideal if you can make it work. For a road race car, (depending on how its funded i guess) i would rethink this. If its primarily a drag car, then I feel there is no need for the usdm support.
Oh yeah, if it's a drag only trailered car, then you surely don't need any front impact protection (just hope you don't tag a wall).
If I had a drag only car, I wouldn't hesitate to use the JDM supports.

I'd love it if someone made a product like that with the caveat that it actually fits like OEM.
I don' think any of the "carbon fiber" trunk lids save much weight, either. I need to gut my OEM trunk lid and see how much it weighs.
