Default car takes forever to warm up and operating temp is low!

Basically what the title says. I just installed my new motor, and the car is taking way longer than normal to warm up to operating temperature. When it finally warms up, the gauge temperature im reading on my cluster is low as hell. I know my cluster is good because my itr motor before warmed up fast and fine. What could cause the temperature need not the be in the middle where its suppose to be?

should i just go with my prediction and replace the thermostat? (i bought the block and installed pistons and rods so i assumed the thermostat was still good.

Default low temperature

I had the exact same issue when I bought my 95 LS. I went to autozone and picked up a new thermostat, installed it, and woila! Engine warms up quickly and stays 1/2 way on the temperature guage.

the motor either does not have a thermostat in it or it is stuck open.

Meh. Thermostats are useless. I say we abolish them.

A very common thing to go bad on any car after so many heat cycles. It's just a spring that heats up and expands to open.

For any of you driving around in winter time without one...
These cars are made to run at a certain temp. Besides being cold while driving, your engine may also be getting harmed.

^ lol I love how you can say that with the information that the OP provided. WTF?

Although, it most likely is the thermostat. I wouldn't jump to any 100% conclusions. Unless you were being sarcastic. In which case, it 100% has to be the valve cover.

Usually, the stock Ferrari radiators are good. But you didn't mention if you installed a larger one. So maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

Was your 1.3L motorcycle engine (lifted from a GSX-R 1300 sport bike) in good running condition before? You didn't mention why you swapped it out. I'll assume that you deemed it too small to power a large Ferrari like the one you own. I'll assume it's a 550Marranello.

I'll assume your car warms up in 2 mins, since you didn't mention what "forever" means. I'll also assume that "my needle is sitting really low on my cluster" means that the needle is sitting about halfway up. I'll also assume that your heat blows hot. Which all leads me to assume that your car is fine.

I figure that maybe it took about 30 seconds to warm up with the motorcycle engine? I'll also assume it was the same temp. outside back when you had the motorcycle engine as it is now that you have the V8. Hmm...sounds like it could be a valve. I won't tell you which one or what I mean since I like leaving a bit to the imagination. It's fun to make you assume.

Pshh...and they said "don't assume because it makes an *** out of you and me." THEY were idiots. Assuming is fun and informative.

I hope your Ferrari lasts you a long time.

I'll say thanks to you for all the useful info...as I'm sure you'll thank me for all my useful answers.
wtf was the point of that?

The point was that the OP included no information about his car at all or his situation. So I made up a car and a situation. What's wrong with that?

Theoretically you can run "too cold" but the reason your engine has so many sensors is to adjust itself according to conditions. So, fundamentally a cold motor runs more efficiently than a hot one. As long as your lubricants are properly rated for colder operation then it will certainly live a long, healthier life.

Oh, and for all the Canadians out there, 12v space-heaters work way better than a heater core does

thanks for spending the time writing all that . but yeah, you did a great job on guessing what kind of car i have. It is in fact a ferrari with a 1.3l engine.

you made the situation more complicated then it was. I just briefly described the symptoms, how would your answer change if i told you it was a b16/b18/d16?

just picked up the thermostat. gonna install it tomorrow hopefully.

as others have mentioned already, you're a ****en idiot. you're not nearly as smart you'd like to sound; this thread is in the 'acura integra' forum. that narrows down the possible list of cars to... acura integras. crazy, i know. save the effort next time. op provided enough info to find the solution.
