I found a metal ring that came with the flywheel, it goes in the center hole of the flywheel. Is it of any importance?

Metal ring? You mean the bearing?

No, not the bearing. It's more like a metal collar that gets pressed into the center of the flywheel. I really hope it's useless because it really looks it. It's pressed in the center of the stock flywheel. I believe it came with the clutch kit, I don't recall the Fidanza lightweight flywheel uses that.

found a pic..

That is whats known as a pilot bushing.
That is used in place of a pilot bearing in some cases.
On my F150 it uses a bearing pressed into a bushing to make sure everything stays tight and in place.

Thanks for identifying the part! Now I just need to figure out if the Fidanza alum. flywheel requires such a part.

In any event, is this something that is worth taking the tranny apart again and installing into the flywheel? I already have the engine in the car and running, haven't noticed any tranny problems.

According to Fidanza, the pilot bushing is not required for the Alum. lightweight flywheel.
