What removes carbon in manifold?
I got an intake manifold that i wanna clean before installing. I see alot of black soot or carbon inside the runners. I tried throttle body cleaner and it did nothing. I also tried degreaser and the black is still there,
I know there is something that will breakdown this crap. What did you guys use?

hey, I just wanted to include my experience here as well. I spent $15.00 at the engine shop (it is roughly 3 cans of Sea Foam - right?). They dunked my manifold for less then an huor in parts washer and this is what I got back:

Personally I like using concentrated Simple Green. Smells better, not as toxic to you, and apparently close to be biodegradable. I soaked my pistons in simple green for a while and it did a really nice job I think. Cap was not soaked - you can tell the difference, right?

WOW, that manifold looks clean inside. Well worth 15 bucks!
I don't think i have an engine shop near me but i have look into it. Looks like i'll be trying the gas technique then simple green it to rid the smell.

I have fund nothing that works as well or as fast as spray paint remover.
As long as you use it on bare metal ( no powder coatings, paint, silk screens) the carbon build up just melts away.
put the part on the floor and use a hose to rinse away the stripper.
It might take 2 applications, but you don't even have to touch the part.

What brand you use?
I used air craft paint stripper. It works just fine. I let it sit for about 15- 30 mins and rinse it off with water and it looks clean and new! It actually made my outside of the intake looks new too.
WOW, nothing worked like the aircraft remover. I used the gel one in a 32oz can cause it was on sale. I spread it in the runners and you can see the black carbon liquify. Now the manifold looks like new inside.
I used the spray can one, but same thing anyhow. I did my throttle body and everything else and came out like new.
