Default Is this normal?

I was on my way to Charlotte on I-85 and I went to shift, tried to put it in gear, and it ground, really bad. Then I figured something out...I didn't have the clutch in.

So I ask you, is it normal to be able to pull the car out of gear sans clutch and it not mean I need a new tranny?

i think you were kinda tired when you typed that so i hope i got this right

you pulled your car out of gear with out using the clutch and then continued to put it in gear.

yes you can pull it out of gear without the clutch sometimes very easily
putting it back into gear without the clutch grinds the gear, the amount of damage done depends on how long you let it grind. no you should not need a new tranny if you notice in the future problems with that gear and it engageing then yes i would look into a new tranny.

I am pretty tired. Thanks, I have been so busy lately that my mind is not what it used to be.
