gsr in a 4gen hatch
my 4g has a b16a in it. i wanna put a gsr in it. find one with a blown motor and build it up all motor. i wanna do the type r pistons and cams but titanium valves springs and retainers. i mite sleave it if the block is that bad. this issue is how cheap i can find the engine for. at any rate. how hard is this swap into my civic with the b16a in it? i am going to sell my entire drop out including the harness. dont worry about the harness cause my friend will make me one. i was jsut wondering how hard this swap is itself and what it will run fully built up. venom intake manafold all the way just because they look sick. thanks for any inof on the swap. also...how hard and how much $$ is involved in changing my sloppy cable tranny to a hydro?
The GSR uses two more wires than the B16A, and thats stock. With the Venom I.M., you bypass those wires. The motor uses all the same mount locations, so thats set. As for the Hydro conversion, I wouldnt do it. Simple, done. On ya, GSR motors are OBD1. Your friend will have fun making that harness...
why not hydro tranny? i like the venom i.m. it looks sick. but why not hydro. cable is sloppy. what would i be looking at for a gsr tranny? what mounts? i have place racing mounts now.
The hydro tranny is awsome that is why honda switched from cable to hydro. Its much better. But for ease of swap i would say stick with your cable tranny for now. HASport is comming out with a new mount soon for the hydro tranny, but if you do have the hydro tranny, right now your going to have to make a custom mount for it.
just use your B16 ECU and chip it with the Mugen proggy.
change two pinouts on your ECU harness
use a Skunk IM
then your GSR is obd0 - no rewiring...
[doesn't he have to use a obd0 distrib if he does that]

there's a guy in town with a gsr in a h/b, with I/H/E, a bunch of tuning, slicks and a few practice runs... and he pulled a 12.9. I think 13-14 is a pretty reasonable expectation. I haven't run mine yet - still finishing the last details...
curiously why would u say the hydro tranny's are better? other than the actual difference in cable/hydro activation..what about the hydro tranny's themselves is better? im cruous because im selling off my hydro S80 (itr) tranny and am hybriding my crx using a jdm s1 cable tranny.
ironically, im going to be replacing the syncros in both soon so i'll be able to see the differences first hand.

I love the ITR tranny in my 4th gen, feels so much smoother and I don't have to worry about repairing synchros on JDM cable trannies. Hyrdaulic transmissions have bigger syncros, and on a personal note I find it is much nicer to shift at high rpms with the hydro tranny than with cable trannies I've tried. I post the link occaisionally to my conversion if anyone want to do it.
If I had to do another conversion I could probably do it in a day and get the tranny mount modified in a few days. The first time through it took me about three days to get everything right, pedal placement, lines, etc.

*nods* i like my hydro itr tranny right now..it is pretty smooth..even with my ACT clutch..but the cable tranny i think im going to enjoy as well. some ppl like the cable clutch feel better than the hydro..in much the same way that some ppl like no power steering over ps.
i'll be using a cm 6-puck unsprung clutch with it tho so i know it'll be pretty harsh. even now my ACT is. but then again im one of the odd ones that thinks a rusty 89 hf w/no interior, an unsprung clutch, and 200+whp will be fun.
