Default 89 CRX Si has intermittent blower operation

That lately has been getting more intermittent. It used to be a sharp blow to the area below the glove box would bring it back on for a few days/weeks/months - but as of late that trick isn't working as often as it used to.

Is this the infamous "blower motor resistor" I've read about? Or could it be something with the HVAC control slider itself?

Luckily I have a parts car that was blowing strong when I ripped the engine out of it, so there is a bright side there.

How likely is it to be a loose/corroded connection?

Typically if the resistor is out it will work on the highest speed but not on one or all of the lower blower setting speeds.

So the more 'binary' nature of the problem indicates another cause? Because its either blowing, or it isn't, regardless of fan-speed setting.

So you are saying that when it works, it works on all fan speeds?

And when it doesn't work, it doesn't work on any setting?

My car has done that before. It was a very intermittent problem. I took the plug off (at the resistor) and cleaned it all up and put in dielectric grease and it hasn't done it since.

Yes sir, you hit the nail right on the head. So I need to remove the blower and get at the plug behind it then? I started this on my parts car and I could tell its not going to be a fun afternoon.

Also, today on the way to Wal-mart it randomly came on again, and has now been working all day.

So random. OK, I'll check the plug and apply more grease, thanks for the tip.

Your question was answered in my original post in this thread....

It sounds to me like your blower resistor has failed!

the blower motor is on the way out. you can try beating on it with a hammer it might give you a couple more months, water usually gets in and rusts them up
