Throttle Position Sensor - 97 Integra
I have a 97 Integra. The TPS might be bad, but the mechanic says that he needs to replace the entire Throttle Body Part, which is $800. He says its because of calibration issues and that this is the recommended action.
Any thoughts on the validity?

BS, You can just put a new sensor on, $50 dollars second hand part.
Even replacing the whole throttle body wouldnt cost $800. You can get aftermarket performance ones for cheaper.
Find a new mechanic or replace the sensor yourself.
Only hard bit is adjusting it to right reading, Need to use a volt meater (10min job tops)

blox makes a TPS sensor, you can get it on ebay for like 40 bucks shipped. If you were trying to get one at the dealer, you can't. you have to buy the whole throtle body which is probablly gona be 800 because the dealer wants to take your money! or you could get one at a junk yard. either way the sensor is gona have to calibrated using a volt meter. you could do it yourself. search for calibrating TPS. you will come up with something.
The tps sensors are "rivited" onto the throttle body. You will have to drill it out and tap it for some bolts. 800 dollars is outrageous but the mechanic is right, the best (not cheapest) action is to replace your whole throttle body. They probably quoted you for a brand new one and 2 or 3 hours labor when it should only take 1 hour tops to change a throttle body.
