Default lineing the shaft on the auto tranny to the engine 92 civic Dx

last time i changed my engine i just tightened the bolts and my tranny made a loud pop noise and the bolts went the rest of the way in fine. this time it was making a cracking noise and i was forcing the bolts untill i saw a crack on the tranny housing and i backed the bolts out and the crack got small. so im thinking it will be fine to weld that crack shut and line it up right. but my question is how do you allign the shaft into the engine correctly? i turned the crack twice and tried over and over but not to hard. today imma try again but is their a specil way of putting it in?

if i can't do it then imma go ahead and put my 5spd in.

You should not be trying to align the input shaft of your auto trans to the torque converter WHILE the TC is installed onto the flex plate!!!

Remove the TC from the flex plate and install onto the transmission. Then, install the TC/trans as an assembly onto the bell housing. I'm sure you damaged your TC o ring at the least...

smooth move exlax... anyway there are two steps on the torque convertor and just like evs-one said it goes on the tranny and then put on the engine. once they are together you can spin it around untill the flexplate and torque convertor holes line up. one thing i hope you learned from this is if it dont fit dont force it. try again.
