Default Replacing my valve cover seal?

On my B20 integra.

I searched and could not find much. Dont you have to apply some kind of silicone or hondabond?

What is the proper procedure?

I usually do the following:
1. Remove the valve cover and take off the old gasket (obvious).
2. Make sure you purchased a full valve cover gasket kit including the 4 spark plug hole gaskets.
3. Install the new gaskets supplied in the kit.
4. Only use a dab of silicone at the 8 cam cap corners; 4 points on the timing belt side, and 4 on the distributor side.
5. Carefully reinstall the cover, and be sure not to overtighten the valve cover bolts.
Good luck!

as a check procedure, make sure those "spark plug gasket rings" don't fall off when putting the valve cover back on, cause sometimes they don't stick on very well. I have a friend that had a 2000 model SI and he forgot to put his back on, pulled plug wire and hole was full of oil--- definately not preferred

Silicone is just a couple bucks. I've always used black RTV.

And quote works just fine; just click the "quote reply" button on the bottom right.

The cam cap corners can be found on both the left and right side fo the head on the top after you remove your valve cover. they stick up and are aluminum, and they are half moon shaped. Where the contact the head put a small amount of silicone. There will be 8 spots that meet this requirement. Good luck!

yeah that would suck, it's pretty easy to do, i think when you buy the seal it'll come with the spark plug seals too.

I highly do NOT recommend using any type of sealant when installing valve cover gasket. It seats fine if brand new and all you have to do is make sure you cross torque bolts to 7 ft. lbs. If you use too much sealant and when installing cover back on, it will leak into your head and mix with oil=
BAD

since no one has mention it yet so I say it... clean the mating surface with brake cleaner. it will provide a tighter seal it's free of oil. btw I also don't use sealant. never have and never will. factory manual don't tell you to do so I don't.

Yeah, ok. Makes sense. What page is it in the helm if anyone knows? Not to be lazy, im just really busy all the time.

Ill be doing my spark plugs as well. Been running the ones my B20 came with over a year ago..

Oh and to an earlier reply, you cant choose to quote from the list of posts below like before as I type this.

Thanks for all the replies, oh and for information purposes I got the felpro valve cover gasket set WITH spark plug gasket rings included for $22 at Oreilly.

All B series valve covers come from the factory with sealant in the spots I recommended. Do what you want though. Good luck!

Actually, i just had a look in my helm. Page 6-33

Note: Use liquid gasket, Part NO. 08718 - 0001

It does advise you to use it.
