started my car up this morning and noticed my oil light came on. drove for about a mile then it started to blink. 10 miles after and 12 hours later(after work before starting car) I checked my oil expecting it to be low but it was where I last checked a few days ago. It was over serviced about half a centimeter above the second dot and the oil light was still on. I decided to take my chances and drive it but didn't even make it down the block. Within 25 seconds my engine shut down. I thought it was my knee that accidently hit the keys but when i started her up while rolling and gave her a little gas she gave power but then shut down again. I then parked and started the engine again and noticed smoke coming from around the dip stick. No oil leaks I'm thinking it has something to do with my timing belt and water pump because I had that changed 3-4 months ago. And the engine still runs in neutral but if I try and drive engine shuts down. I drive a '96 gsr. any trouble shooting tips PLEASEEE!!!!

 

before u drove it why didnt think of putting oil in it?

 

sounds like your oil pump took a dump also sounds like time for a rebuild

also your suppose to check your oil at operating temp.

 

I would guess oil pump if the oil level was fine...remember Honda oil lights pretty much mean...You're screwed!

 

yessir i had that problem. oil light came on, few weeks later, dropping a new motor

 

It was low before and then i added a quart not too long ago. Plus it was 4 in the morning no auto store was open. Is it really recomended getting a rebuild? I only have 127 k on it. So it is the oil pump?

 

mine just shut off, i pulled it out, and the motor was locked up. ripped the motor apart cylinder one was [freak]ed. sleeves all grooved. more then likey yes. but i guess we will only know if you get in there and look at it.
