Hey guys, I have a 1977 Accord that I'd like to restore and was curious if anyone had any recommendations
as far as good places to get new/used parts that old. We are the original owners
so we''d like to keep it alive and preserve an early original Accord.

Where are you located, man?

 

Out in Southern California by LAX.
Car-part.com and Auto body parts online seem to be pretty good for locating hard to find used and repros.
I went back to Manchester Honda's site, which is where I used to get all my stuff and it looks like most of the NOS parts have dried up.
This is a fairly early model, mfg. 11/1976, silver, hondamatic.
I'll probably have to buy a doner '76-'78 silver car to really get all the pieces, if I can find one with unrusted metal.

Did a little research on the car tonight, and it is a fairly early U.S. one.
The first Accords to come to the U.S. were mfg. in May 1976.
Mine is a November 1976 mfg. so 7th month of Accord importation to the U.S.
and it's vin of 7432 out of 83,941 total '77's says it was in the first 8.7% of the '77's.
Interesting. I wonder how many orig. owners have older ones in the U.S.
that are still being driven and in excellent condition?

If any of you guys see this stuff in good cond. or a '76-'78 silver doner car in California,
could you drop me an email/PM so I can check it out. I have located most of these parts
at yards across the U.S., but would like to locate them in state first.
Anyone have experience with UPS/FedEx shipping big stuff like this?

This car is accurate as to how our early silver one looked when my mom picked it up in 1976..
No wheel trim rings (optional), no mid door trim, no pax mirror
and the wiper arms, although black, were fairly shiny like anodized metal.

Hey thanks, will prob. be late Dec. before it really starts getting torn down,
but looking forward to it myself. I hope the shops will be slow after new year's
and it will get done in a few months after that.

 

Things like the hood and header panel, I would just take them to get media blasted, do a little repair work, and paint them. They don't look to be in terrible condition. Heck, the roof isn't that much work. The only issue is getting glass out without damaging the trim, as that stuff is darn near impossible to find. I definitely see a welder in your future, if you don't have one already. I would love to take that car off your hands if you weren't on the other side of the country...

Yeah I think the roof panel will need to be replaced as it's warping and I'm guessing rusted on the underside.
I'm going to leave the welding up to a pro although I did some mig/tig in college.
My mom would kill me if I sold it to you......she still remembers getting the call from the dealer
at work 32 years ago and running to pick it up because someone had backed out and her
6 mo. waiting list was turning into 3 mo. because eveyone wanted a 5 speed.

Everybody wanted a 5-speed? Oh how times have changed. Now less than 5% of all cars sold today come with Autotragics. It's a shame seriously.

Yeah the general public has just become lazy. I love driving a manual. Id take one over an automatic anyday. I think theyre fun to drive and they get better gas milage :D

I'd like to find a complete silver '76-'77 donor first before scavenging parts unless great deals
can be found on new/near new parts in yards/ebay.

This one has to stay factory original.
The K20 idea would be good if I was going modified.
Most of the work will start after xmas, I'll post the progress.

 

A k20 would be cool, but a stock restore would be even cooler in my opinion.

 

for used parts, I would try Milan Wrecking in Wilmington for honda parts....but after you have exhausted your search at the local pick a part....

for new parts...speak to Norman at Streetlightz....he is my honda parts guy; he previously worked many years at Colonial Honda in Glendale and knows the vintage parts system like it was the back of his hand and provides excellent service even though sometimes you are just checking part numbers and such. NOT like other hondas dealers part dept. who are phucken a...holes.

decals and stickers...I am reproducing alot of stuff (no longer available) so if you need assistance I can do that...especially the Honda "ok" decal.

Yeah besides the "OK" decal I'd be interested in the hood emissions one,
the air cleaner one on the side of the canister, the vacuum box/module one,
the radiator one and I think there were ones on the washer tank and overflow tank.
I'll PM you when that stuff is closer, right now I'm just trying to find a silver '76-'78 donor to buy.

 

Well, major change of plans with my work.....won't be able to do the project unfortunately.
On the bright side, I located a really nice '77 silver donor/restoration car and I'll also be selling mine.
So I'll list those once I talk to the guy selling the donor.
Sorry about getting some people's hopes up,
this other project is just too big to do the Honda at the same time.

It has 129K, valve job at 80K, newer tires, runs and drives well,
just the roof/panel rust, couple of dents and seats need upholstery but have decent sheepskins on them.
